While I MUCH prefer G1-faithful toys (Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream), I also have Bayverse-faithful favourites (Bumblebee, Barricade). And now, my next favourite Bayverse-faithful in line, the Transformers MPM-06 Movie Masterpiece Ironhide is out, and I found the Youtube review below really good for a starter.
Overall it's a beautiful Masterpiece, loyal to the movie - and Ironhide remains one of my favourite movie characters. As you can see from the video, PrimevsPrime points out the one engineering "flaw" (how big this flaw is, depends on the collector) which is the chest/arms articulation. That sours it a little bit for me, but I'm almost willing to overlook it because Ironhide is so cool.
The only setback I have is that I've got limited budget for either the Transformers MPM-06 Movie Masterpiece Ironhide or the superbly engineered Unique Toys UT-01 Peru Kill aka Lockdown.
What do you think?

True, they could've done what they did with Masterpiece MPM-4 Optimus Prime like this:

I think Takara Tomy / Hasbro should just hire the Unique Toys engineers...!

Nah I think their engineers dropped everything to work on the $450 MP-44 Optimus Prime...

You know, I'm not even sure if the same people that do MPM are the same that do MP. There's a lot of figures at that level being worked on at the same time so it feels like there'd be two teams. Either way, I'm pretty sure Ironhide was in the works before Prime was as his release schedule was thrown all out of whack by MPM VW Bee.

I wasn't. I know there's people out there that are certainly going to think MP-44 pulled resources away from other MPs. There are examples of that happening in lines with waves and series, but those things don't exist in MP. I really do think it's the character itself that influences how much effort they put into it these days.

I've seen a few people talk about him as well, but I really don't put much stock in a few of the people anymore, they are particularly very fiddly with these toys.
Still looking forward to him. Maybe he'll be my January MP since Megs is now in April. Hmm, wonder what happened to HTS selling him in August?

Well for what it's worth after researching much I noted that people are complaining about it not coming together, tabbing doesn't 100% connect everywhere, so I think I'll give this a miss and go for Unique Toys' Peru Kill.

Exposed toes in alt mode takes away the "Masterpiece" aspect of this toy for me, which is a bummer because it's a good looking toy aside from that.

It looks especially godawful and phoned-in on a Bayformer

+The arm kibble is mostly screen accurate.
+The shoulder orientation being mostly behind the wheel assembly also seems to be accurate, but in some shots it's definitely more on the side. Hard to tell. I'm assuming they had the models to work off of.
I don't think the transformation is hard at all. I was really surprised to see so many people griping over it online. This is no MPM-4 by any stretch. I'm not sure how anyone was missing the lock points in the shoulder assembly...
He does the whole squat-boi look of Ironhide well and his head articulation is top notch for expressiveness.
I like him but I don't love him and I really wanted to love this toy. I very much fear that a KO of this dude will hit in a few months that drastically improves the build quality and makes slight improvements that resolve all of the problems the figure had, much like MPM-4.

I discredit several people consistently who claim the transformations are hard (mainly cause they hate movie figures/toys and they are whiny) so it's good to hear positive things.
Transformers reviews on online stores are some of the worst things to read. Check out this Power Charge BB review. It's ridiculous what some people consider difficult transformations.

I still want it, but I want to wait for a good deal on it. I was mad as hell at myself when I saw Barricase going for sub 50 bucks.

I'm waiting too, as we have yet to hear word on the Hasbro release, which will surely be around $100 as that was what he was originally listed at.
And Emerje, I've seen the reviews on the toy, there was one on HTS too. It's amazing to me that a giant sturdy Bee toy with big moving parts is such an issue for people.

In bot mode, there's the floaty-shoulders thing, but i'm more annoyed by the forearm panels not tabbing in. There's a peg, and you can push it in, but it doesn;t click or stay in place.
Also, the attachment pegs of the cannons are quite loose, there's not much friction.
He looks cool in bot mode and will stay that way because he's not good at being a transformer.
Awesome figure in concept, flawed in execution.
A far as the instructions go, they're at least better to read than the dark print on dark paper that we got for Bee.

I saw it for 30 bucks cheaper than anywhere else and caved. Plus, I had a 60 dollar Amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket.
Of course, next black Friday, when this bastard is only 60 bucks, I'll hate myself.

I have a $25 gift card for this, but I need to wait at least 2 or 3 weeks. I can't wait to complete 3 of the 5 original bots in MPM form though!

I watched Amazon pull their listing, right as I was going to pre-order. I tried navigating the Japanese Amazon site, only to find out they won't ship to the USA on pre-orders.
Right as this came out in Japan I managed to convince my visiting uncle to pick one up for me, and I should hopefully be getting it today. Only to find that Amazon has reposted the listing...
The only benefit to this is the fact that my uncle might still give me free shipping, and I might still get it sooner than if I had ordered it off Amazon.

As long as Amazon keeps him in stock and doesn’t scalp with resellers. Half tempted to ask bbts for some adjustment in store credit (but I assume their stock came from overseas, hence the price jump) -_-“

Otherwise, I'll just pretend the toes that stick out are one of those extra tall bumpers on trucks that have the built in steps for loading and unloading the bed. Yep, that's what they are, and not kibble.

Are you sure about this? I have MP-43 on Pre-order from them with a US address and all is good here.
Also guys, I think a lot of you bought the Takara Release (identical to the Hasbro one) on BBTs/TFsource and such, and this is the official stateside Hasbro release, hence the money differences.
It's why I waited for this, I knew we would get it here somehow. But I was expecting HTS, considering it was supposed to be an HTS exclusive. And it's been so odd too cause he was supposed to come out last August and Amazon had pre-orders up then that disappeared not long after

It wouldn't, at least where I live...
My mailing has been messed up since the USPS tried to close my post office, which removed my address from almost all USPS databases, so most stores and the like often claim that my mailing address doesn't exist.
That might have been the issue...

I'm either lucky or doing something wrong (don't discount that as possible!) but I don't have any problems with the bot mode.Acolyte wrote:I would be REALLY curious to know if someone has figured out the whole shoulder-looseness issue. Is there a tab solution or transformation step missing that gets the entire figure to come together solidly in the upper body? If not, this is a hard pass for me, which is disappointing, since I have considered the MPM's to be more cost-effective to collect than the MP's (reasonably true statement, and enough people seem to hate on the Bayverse styling that I find them HEAVILY discounted each Thanksgiving). The QC on every figure I've ordered has been questionable or outright disastrous though, with the exception of MPM-7, so unless I see Hastak turn a corner here I'm probably done with MPM for the foreseeable future.
Getting this thing into truck mode is a tabby, panel massage disaster mess of frustration, but at least it can get there unlike MPM-4. The instructions for the front of the truck are awful, watch a video. It still won't make it fun to transform, or help you get every tab in place securely (especially the back of the roof), but it will save you some time. I find it telling that the stock photos above also don't have truck mode completely secure.

This figure is larger and heavier than I imagined with amazing detail that's much more impressive in hand than viewing online. I'm glad to add it to my collection at this great price!

Why? Trying to get his shoulders to lock in, and the folded side panels do not clip into his wrists like they are supposed to.
So very frustrating, as its a great looking mold with excellent size.
