As Amazon exclusives, Ramjet and Dirge may only be available as monstrous Ebay markups at this point. A couple online sellers like TF Source had them for a few seconds, but that was about it.

Does anyone else here try their hand at custom painting? In this case, I was just applying paint for areas I felt were neglected from the factory. I would love to hear any feedback, tips, etc., as I am quite new to it.

I think being the kids line du jour makes it more of an A-List line than Earthrise is.-Kanrabat- wrote:william-james88 wrote:Yup, in a year where we have an arcee for each of main lines, the best turns out to be cyberverse.
I'm still amazed of all the gems the Cyberverse line hold. It's supposed to be the "kid's" line. Some Cyberverse figures being superior to their Generations counterpart was clearly unexpected. Especially when the superiority is because of genuine goodness instead of being the lesser of two evil.

Honestly, if it is anything like the Seeker two-pack, there will be plenty in the stores by the week of Christmas or just into the new year. I remember the mad rush in trying to cop the Seeker pack and finally getting it then a week or so later I saw four on the shelf and they hung around for a couple of weeks.

Putting the accessories on optimus as subtle upgrade form works well in my opinion.
As for the trailer,
I tried to use it as shield mode after seeing it works pretty well on astrotrain's tender. Obviusly this looks nowhere as elegant.

No, the other earthrise figure are on sale as well. This is on indonesian retail however, as i am not indonesian, and the discount only apply today, as part of voting day promo, so i'm not sure if this info is useful for this forum.

Oh, i've been to lovina before! Nice place, and not as crowded as kuta, so it feels calm.
Regarding our retails, we always get every transformers toyline here, albeit considerably late compared to US.. That being said, wether we get every complete wave from each toyline, is totally different case.

And to form the sloped sides of his abdomen (if they absolutely must have those) out of the front fenders. The bumper could stay in place too, also hinged. Be a lot cleaner in terms of both looks and transformation.
So, Optimus should look like this?
Posted by ZeldaTheSwordsman on December 9th, 2020 @ 7:09pm CST
Like I said, the front fenders could be repurposed to make the abdominal slopes; that would take care of them in robot mode and free his arms to be square. And with the bumper on a hinge and the front wheels on hinged struts, they wouldn't get in the way of articulation.

And I immediate broke Prowl's gun trying to get it out of the clamshell. -_-; I've been worried about the clamshell holding weapons a bit too securely and now one broke on me. Happily, I have good glue on hand and there's no evidence of a break at all since it happened right along the indent.
I like Prowl a whole lot. I'm glad I didn't get Siege because this hits all the right notes. The only other Prowl I have is the old Universe version. I never liked it. I got three because I needed those characters, but between the paint issues and my dislike for the mold itself with it's still legs and finnicky doors it never grew on me.
Ironhide on the other hand...
It looks like they started with a good remold, but stopped about halfway through. I could forgive the shoulders, but the feet really are an eyesore and they didn't have to be made like that. I like clear windows, but not when they end halfway through the vehicle. But his robot mode is better than Henkei's. And I need Prowl. So. Fine.
Hopefully a 3P makes some feet for him. I've seen the 3d printed ones and they just will not cut it. I appreciate the effort, but they don't blend well at all.
Hopefully I'll find a Quintesson in my area soon enough. I'm hoping to see one more repaint of the mold, but I only have the pit one so far.

It's jumping back a few posts, but I think Zelda is talking about a Prime that looks like Robot Masters Prime. It's chest and grille aren't fake while still retaining G1 Prime's whole look.
I'm sure there's a way to make that in a way that doesn't make the entire vehicle mode suck.
TBH, I prefer Earthrise. In general I'm not a huge fan of faux parts, but I can't deny the results.

Ewww. That junk is soooo not what I was going for. Even if the chest and grille aren't fake it still suffers from faux-parts usage (like the bumper), the legs having to be turned backwards for vehicle mode, and an excessively complex transformation.Gauntlet101010 wrote:It's jumping back a few posts, but I think Zelda is talking about a Prime that looks like Robot Masters Prime. There's a reason I put a pic of the original (okay, it's a reissue, but) G1 toy in my last post. What I'm talking about is a Prime that largely looks like this except with:
1. The panels on the backs of the shoulders moved to his back to make the cartoon's backpack
2. Square forearms like the cartoon
3. Cartoon-style (at least somewhat) abdominal slopes achieved by flipping the front fenders (which would now no longer be attached to the forearms) up into the empty space left by the arms
4. The front wheels and bumper being hinged similarly to Cybertron Optimus' hip wheels and faux-bumper:
Well, if that's your taste.Gauntlet101010 wrote:TBH, I prefer Earthrise. In general I'm not a huge fan of faux parts, but I can't deny the results.
For me, the transformation process is part of the result, and... A G1 Optimus Prime toy having a borderline Bayformer transformation scheme (based on what I've heard) feels off.
Regarding your gripes about ER Ironhide's feet... It seems pretty likely to me that the SIEGE Ratchet/Ironhide mold was never really designed with an Earth mode retool in mind. HasTak tried to shoehorn it into one anyway with a new windshield, new leg panels, and a roof shield and... Well, you can see how that worked out. The feet worked okay in the original version of the mold, and that was all they were really meant for.
Which 3D-printed feet were you looking at? The Funbie Studios ones look like they blend decently at least (although they're C.O.M.A.T. incompatible). Maybe it would work better to have a secondary shield piece that covers the feet to blend them (and can combine with the existing one in its ground platform mode).
I personally think ER Ratchet and Ironhide were a bad development investment... A new, Voyager mold with an A.I.R.Lock-compatible version of the G1 sled would have been a lot better I think.

Are they faux parts when they don't resemble a bumper in the least? Or even try to? But very well, I guess I missed what exactly you were describing.
I don't think that's exactly my ideal Prime, but to each his own.

Yeah, those are the only ones available so far and they don't look good to me at all. I saw some 3rd party upgrades in development as I was searching and I hope that they get produced.
I don't think the Siege toy was ever meant to be repurposed either. The effect COULD have been alright, but it's like they ran out of money at the end since so much doesn't work. It'd have been better if they knew they were going to make an Earth mode from it and designed it to work with both modes in mind. Because it almost works. But not quite.
Personally I don't mind the shield. Because it actually looks like a shield.

Unless you mean that then they're upside-down compared to the character illustration.

Well, they're faux-parts in that any attempt to implement what I call the "Dery Diaper" in lieu of just leaving the real bumper is; they replace the bumper with the thing the animation warps it into in robot mode. Robotmasters is a fairly unobtrusive example since it just segments it and slaps the segments on the hips, but it is an example.Gauntlet101010 wrote:ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Ewww. Oh, I'm not saying it's a bad shield. It's a very good tower shield, especially with the point made by the folded front windows. It's just, the reason it exists is that HasTak tried to shoehorn a mold not designed to be Earth mode, into being Earth mode.Gauntlet101010 wrote:Regarding your gripes about ER Ironhide's feet... See, this is where I can't really follow you to the end. Even if I disagree I can understand Hot Rod's hood and even Optimus' grille. But the "bumper" is one of those things that looks irreconcilably different, especially if you want a more realistic alt. mode. When the original MP Prime came out I loved that they found a way to get both bumpers right.
If they made Prime your way the robot mode wouldn't really look much like Prime proportionally speaking. I don't think it would look very appealing in robot mode, though. Not if it's G1 Prime. If it were a different Prime who was designed to work that way then it's a different story.
Maybe photoshop something? On the face of it it seems like it would look really bad.

Well see, I think when something looks that irreconcilably different, when it's been warped that badly by the animation design, then the animation's distorted version should generally be tossed out the window and good riddance.Gauntlet101010 wrote:ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Well, they're faux-parts in that any attempt to implement what I call the "Dery Diaper" in lieu of just leaving the real bumper is; they replace the bumper with the thing the animation warps it into in robot mode. I don't think I really need Photoshop because what I'm talking about is this. This bumper right here. The real bumper. Where it is on the G1 toy, as it looks on the G1 toy. Just on a hinge (and with the red plastic below it gone) so that it doesn't get in the way of leg articulation.
Looks decent to me. I suppose you could also have hinges in the bumper itself that bring the sides closer to the tires, for a more "wrapped around the waist" look. If that's not enough for you to picture it I'll try and draw something up after finals

That's your ideal? I mean I get wanting a simpler, uncomplicated transformation. And I also get wanting no faux parts, that part of the fun of a transformer is that a vehicle turns into a robot, not a robot that pretends to have vehicle parts. But I think you're skewing too far towards vehicle mode supremacy. The robot mode has to look good too in a modern sense.

But no, sticking that rigidly to the G1 toy design isn't my ideal. When I made that post I was zeroing in on how I preferred the bumper because I thought you were trying to ask me to specifically explain that.
Here's the full list of proposals from earlier in the thread.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:There's a reason I put a pic of the original (okay, it's a reissue, but) G1 toy in my last post. What I'm talking about is a Prime that largely looks like this except with:

Alternatively, you could have the ab slopes be popout pieces and deal with the fenders another way... I'll post concept drawings to hopefully better show I'm thinking of.
Made an abortive attempt at that once, back when I was inept and had no parts resources. But that wouldn't really make for a good modern G1 Prime toy.Quantum Surge wrote:Just try and mod the G1 toy to give it better leg movement as an experiment to see if it'd work. The existing Prime I'll be happy with for now is CW. He has his own compromises and faux-parts (mechanically necessitated by combining in his case) usage, but I like his size and his cleaner transformation better so... *shrug*
