It would really help you if you read a comic or watched a show before you passed judgement on the character you don't know about. Yes, the design isn't Geewun, but TF: Prime Starscream is a really nice character.

Without the show, I can see where you are coming from, but Prime Starscream is my favorite Starscream of all time. You can't help but smile at his. He is cunning, coward, and betrayer all wrapped up into one. Like take the best attributes of most Starscreams in recent times and wrap them up and you have Prime Screamer. Just a great character, and his voice acting is superb.
I will buy both version of Starscream. I couldn't wait until next spring to finally have a version of this guy, so I will get the Deluxe in anticipation of the Voyager.

Animated Starscream was plagued with automorph from the 07 movie, and that Voyager Starscream clearly has a mechtech weapon. Still love the design, but that weapons is being stowed away.

I'm not going to blame HASBRO on this one, afterall they simply had to meet the demand of the shows character designers/creators. It's those creators that I hold responsible. They had an opportunity here to create a completely new look for all of our favorite G1 icons and THIS is what they came up with? I know highschool kids and Graphic Arts freshman who could have come up with a better design. I might have been able to swallow this better if this mold had been introdced as a completely new character, but as Starscream?
His alt mode is awful...I'm sure somebody is gonna try to correct me but he doesn't seem to look like any actual existing Military aircraft, kind of a mixed jumble actually, and shaped a little like a Harrier jump jet. And the missiles on his arms look like old fashioned blunt instruments that can only be fired once (rocket propulsion etc). Shouldn't he have some type of gnarly energized or ballistic repeater of some kind (similar to his G1 nullray)? I feel like they missed the chance to update him by blending the original Seeker design along with a touch of Bayformer (that all the kids have come to expect) to create a really new and dangerous F-35 look. This figure doesn't look dangerous at all LOL. Theres no room in my collection for this kind of presentation. However I'm not worried about HASBRO stock dropping anytime soon b/c I'm sure plenty of you out there will disagree and buy this.
*And this is off topic, but why do we have yet another re-boot that doesn't seem to be taking advantage of the mulitple Seeker Jet characters? I mean, it would be the same toy mold for HASBRO $$$ and would provide expendable cannon fodder for the show plot. Ughhh

The Vehicons provide enough fodder
As for Starscream's missiles, in the show he is made out to be outdated in many ways when in one episode he looses an arm and Knockout tries to get him to upgrade to new and more advanced weaponry. Starscream refuses. So yes he has outdated, fire once type missiles, but that is true to his character, and in all honesty, a much better re-imagining of Starscream than has ever been in other series.
If you only gave it a chance on the 5 part mini series back in December than you aren't basing it on its finest materials. I hated the 5 parter at the beginning, and was very outspoken about it. I kept watching though when it started up again and man, this series is excellent. They are light on the human screen time for the most part, and even when Jack and Miko are involved they are actually enjoyable (still haven't found an episode where I've liked Rafe). The character development is at Beast wars quality (except with Prime. I guess Cullen is expensive, and so Prime isn't in there very much. Optimus is a one trick pony anyways.) and I've really come to enjoy anything involving Arcee, Bulkhead and Starscream especially.

G1Legacy: Hate to say it, bud, but we'll (w/ a 99% probability) never see any newly animated version of Starscream as an F-15 Eagle ever again. Lord OnixPrime's explanation for why he's a F-16 instead of something much newer (like a Raptor or JSF) is dead-on. Even by comparison w/ his toon version, the deluxe Prime SS is a lot more show accurate in alt-form than the pics we've seen of the WIP Voyager. Whomever designed that prototype has never looked at a pic of a F-16. Otherwise those wings would be much further back along the fuselage.

He's based on a F-16 Falcon. Which, in comparison to modern fighter planes, is outdated. So, with this version of the character, makes perfect sense. As for the missiles, they tend to "reload" during any episode he fires one in. Who knows? Maybe some 3rd-Party will make guns for his arms, or some fan/customizer will come up a good replacement mod.

I can honestly say that I'm liking this version of Starscream more & more with each passing episode. Especially after Saturday's episode. He is WAAAY less whiny than any other version of ol' SS; think Hannibal Lecter & Live-Action SS w/ just a little G1 SS thrown in. I likez me some Starscream, but even the G1 version got a bit annoying with his whining.
I also like how the Vehicons are going to fill the role of the duplicated/repainted seekers of any other series/toy line. IMHO, this gives the animators & Hasbro the chance to redux any seeker as some other plane; not just as alternate-colored versions of Starscream. Also, this way any Decepticon flyer that they design stands out in comparison to the cannon fodder grunt Vehicons.
So, yes; I'll buy this version of TF:Prime Starscream. And he'll look really good & more to scale standing next to (or behind) the TF:P voyager Megatron.

I want to make sure to clarify that I wasn't suggesting that they should have designed him as an F-15. But I do wish it could have been something closer to a Joint Strike Fighter, but then again one of the themes I've noticed about TF:P is it's lack of specifics when it comes to alt mode brands and logos. Which I'm sure is chalked up to legal reasons. I'm trying to keep this thread related to the toy pictured above but I would like to comment further on some of the good points brought up in conversation. As for the vehicons as cannon fodder, why would you limit the majority of your combat force to just ground based vehicle alt modes. Yes I know the Autobots are always guilty of this too but it seems particularly un-decepticon like to me. My biggest issues with alot of the newer TF stuff is the veering off of the original characterizations and behaviors. I agree that cannon fodder is currently present and I've accepted that this is the format and backstory that the producers have decided to run with (although how many times must we re-create Unicron, if that is indeed him in the recent leaked promos).
It goes without saying that the original stories and designs of G1 wouldn't work in this current fanbase as it's continued to evolve for the past 30+ years...however I can also say with "99.9% probability" that with the onset of the internet age there will always be fan-made literature and digital animations etc that will portray "Screamer" in his original alt mode and personality characteristics (love them or hate them) . That being said I would also never say never to an F-15 design rearing it's head again in a future televised format, however unlikley. There may one day be a cut-away scene in another series explaining that the Decepticons have been on earth for a long time and portray a 'con in F-15 mode (whether it's Screamer, Cracker, or Warp...whatever) Afterall, the F-15 seeker was the iconic earth based foot soldier from G1.
What I'm trying to get at is there will always be "shout outs" and/or a "tipping of the hat" toward G1 fans.
Off topic again: A friend of mine that was just getting into TF collecting recently made the observation that he's never seen a franchise where there are so many conflicting elements to its fans and collector base. And he's right. Many people assume that because of my handle/name that I'm some strict purist when nothing could be further from the truth. I'm a fan of good story telling and compelling toys and getting back to this figure, he just doesn't do anything for me personally but I accept that there are plenty of "Prime" fans out there that will love it.
And as frustrating as it might be to waste time reading the rantings of an old timer on these message boards I take comfort in the fact that weather your interests lie in BeastWars, Energon, or Bayformers...none of it would be here if it wasn't for Generation 1 (and Diaclone). LOL

Really? I like SQ being a voyager. It kind of adds to the "scare" factor if he towers over the deluxes. It looks like Hasbro is investing quite a bit into this Prime line. I wish the cast was a little bigger. Any pictures shown of Wheeljack?

Some folks were speculating early on that Megatron would be getting a new body/alt mode as part of his recovery. That doesn't seem like it's going to happen any time soon; however, I have to wonder if all these hints about Starscream being outdated point to him getting that sort of makeover.

Its fair to say screams robot mode could have been hidden a lot better in alt mode but robot mode is excellent even if he is not traditional.
I will only be buying random characters i wont be getting the hole cast.

However, in my personal opinion, it appears that most, if not all, of the Prime toys confirmed for release have been able to match both vehicle and robot mode with a high degree of screen accuracy. Take a look at the Voyager Optimus:
Panel lines aside I believe that this is one of the most screen accurate figures akin to the Voyager Animated Prime (without the axe). You might agree with me or not, but so what. This is shaping up to be another excellent line and when the SDCC '11 deluxe Prime shows up on HTS I will do everything in my power to nab one for myself

Vehicons actually come in 2 spices, car and jet.
I'm telling you though, you've got to watch some of the Starscream centric episodes from Prime and you will realize that this isn't some character called Starscream without any of his trade characteristics. If you are a big Starscream fan, this is the best Starscream to have existed in this transformers fans oppinion, and Starscream is one of my favorite Cons.
