The latest series of Transformers toys - Generations or Transformers United (Japanese version) are getting the collectors excited by introducing various characters that are paying homage to Generation One.

Thanks to Seibertron.com member - kotoys, we get to see the upcoming figure, Generations Perceptor. As we can see the Autobot scientist is getting an update for the alternate mode while the robot closely resembles his G1 counterpart.

Heavens to Betsy! Is that really CHROME on his twisty-knobs, chest and missile?

HASBRO? Doing CHROME?!?!

<faint>

robot mode ain't too bad for such a dull character. Vehicle mode isn't memorable at all though.

I really like this Perceptor's robot mode, he has all the aesthetics of his G1 self, but more streamlined...his alt mode on the other hand WTF!!! couldn't they have made him a satellite or a lunar rover or something scien-freakin-tically for that matter...heck at least I am glad that we're getting a g1-ish perceptor period for it is a good time in history to be a Transfan :KREMZEEK:

I think they tried to mimic his third mode in the IDW comics.

i wonder if he has an unofficial 3rd alt mode (the telescope)like WFC soudwave... :-? :-?
Re: Toy Images of Generations Perceptor (1144002)
Posted by Oilspill on November 8th, 2010 @ 7:57am CST
Loving the dials on his arms, this is an incredibly good homage in robot mode. Alt mode is excellent too, don't think there are any half tracks in the classicsverse (and very few in G1 too) - arguably not Perceptorish, but he did have tracks + wheels in his G1 "tank" mode.

Nice use of chrome Hasbro, that's unexpected.

Now surely his chest is meant to have a faction symbol on it. Wonder if it will be there on the retail release?

Hey, is this perhaps the first shoulder mounted missile launcher in classicsverse? Awesome!

It would be really cool if there was a secret microscope or telescope mode similar to WFC Soundwave. He definitely shows microscope parts in robot mode.

Loving him and getting him on first sight. :D The vehicle mode actually pays homage to his Animated incarnation, designs even show him with the back transforming into a Microscope!

btw I hate to be anal about names, but this is a Reveal the Shield release, not Generations, as he has the rubsign on his hood.

Does his chest flip down, like on the old Perceptor. It looks like it does.

I know it won't be likely, but when then reuse the mold for Reflector, it would be awsome if the also changed that chest part to the oval lens Reflector had.

I really like the robot mode. They even put the microscope parts on his wrists eve though they are not needed for anything. This figure was made to be displayed in robot mode. I dont think anybody cares about the vechicle mode. They should have just gone all the way and made him turn into a microscope. I know kids wouldnt have found that "fun" but what about Scalpel ??? That figure was so delicate I broke one and had to exchange it at Target. It wasnt made with kids in mind in my opinion...

Looks super awesome, except for two things: Needs a hand weapon, and his alt mode needs more color. Put some blue/green on there, and he's perfect. Love the shoulder weapon, the dials, the head mold, and chrome detail (?!).
Re: Toy Images of Generations Perceptor (1144031)

Okay, my three thoughts:

1) His Alt Mode makes me want an Animated Perceptor even more
2) His Bot mode looks really G1 accurate considering they changed his Alt mode entirely.
3) Is it just me or does his face look like he is pouting and depressed?
Re: Toy Images of Generations Perceptor (1144032)

Please be a third mode, please be a third mode. That truck mode does nothing for me. Bot mode looks good though.

The more I see of him the more I can't wait to get my hands on him. I'm actually glad they sacrificed his traditional mode. I prefer TF that turn into vehicles, or at least more believably sized alt modes. I've never been a fan of Megatron going from a gun to bot, or Soundwave going from a boombox to a bot. Although I must admit that a third unofficial mode, similar to Soundwave would be nice for those who want it, as long as it at least resembles a microscope.

Do you think Blurr's rifle will work with Perceptor since he has the open hands?
Re: Toy Images of Generations Perceptor (1144064)
Posted by Badassimus Prime on November 8th, 2010 @ 10:12am CST
This is a nice iteration of the character. Love the alt-mode and I'm surprised to see chrome on some of his parts. I do wish he came with a hand weapon of some sort. I guess I'll have to buy him some weapons now. I could go with the route that everyone is going with by giving him Blurr's rifle. It just doesn't look like it'll work with his hands. Plus, I hate giving a TF's weapons to another; want them all to be complete with what they came with. All in all, I'm looking forward to getting him.

I'm wondering if this is actually the United version, what with the chrome and all. Because the original image we saw for Perceptor was definitely Generations/RTS, and it lacked the chrome.
Image

It's possible the above was just a figure that had not yet been chromed - but maybe this pic is the Hasbro version, and the one at the start of this thread is the Takara United version.
Re: Toy Images of Generations Perceptor (1144080)

I guess I just dont like modern day re-takes, Im pure G1 when it comes to my classics collection. Theres nothing actually "wrong" with his vehicle mode. It's just too rugged to be the geekey perceptor from G1. Mines staying in robot mode for display.

DANG IT! I hate the open-hand fad! The one thing I really wanted was for him to hold Blurr's sniper rifle, and now I'll be lucky if he can hold it at all, let alone do so outside of a very limited range of poses! :-(

Also Prowl/Smokescreen/Silverstreak.

Have hope yet young grasshopper. Remember, a few (limited sadly) have enough curl in their fingers that a 5mm peg will fit and stay upright. And looking at the pic of him holding the missile into his shoulder, there might be enough in the lower part of his hand.

Or not...

Must be a Hasbro in-joke. Those usually concern designers' birthdays.

Takara has used rubsigns as well back in the day. They're not region specific.

Though that's true, they're not using rubsigns for their United figures. On the other hand, Hasbro is using them in their Reveal the Shield line, very likely meaning that this is indeed Hasbro's version of the toy.

Not only that, but we have seen (or at least prerelease pics of) Perceptor from the United line. These pics can be seen at this link. As can be seen it is lacking the chrome and the insignia on the hood.
Re: Toy Images of Generations Perceptor (1144260)
Posted by The Variable on November 8th, 2010 @ 6:15pm CST
It's too bad the silver chrome on his chest doesn't include the portion on the abdomen that used to become the microscope's mirror, but other than that, no Wreckers-style sniper rifle and eyepiece?

Despite that, I really like this incarnation of Perceptor. I had the original back in the day, and this (more practical) update has me very excited.

Of course, it would be a big kick if the transformation and articulation allowed for a fan-mode microscope!
Re: Toy Images of Generations Perceptor (1144265)
Posted by Amelie on November 8th, 2010 @ 6:18pm CST
Yuk. There's a failure in every Transformers line, and for me, Perceptor fills that role in Generations.

I pray they don't wreck Reflector in the same way and the mold isn't modded or recoloured.

Not overly excited for him. I'm disappointed with the alt mode. Very bland and unimaginative.
Bot mode on the other hand is great but i think i'm gonna pass on him.
That's my first impression anyways. He's a figure i think should have stayed away from a vehicle for an alt mode. I would prefer him to remain a microscope.
Call me old fashioned and a stubborn G1'er. You can tell me transformer alt modes should evolve and blah blah blah but he should be a MICROSCOPE and there's nothing wrong with him being a microscope no matter how newschool you are and think it's ridiculous.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw this figure. Blurr's sniper rifle would be perfect to make this an even more IDW-inspired Perceptor. I hope the gun fits in his hand, though. They look kinda weird.
