Friends, I have been at this a for 19 years, and I haven't been this excited about Transformers in long time. Maybe not even since My bro sent me Classics Bee for my birthday and made me realize how great those were.
I've had the 1st wave limbs for over a month now. Yesterday Prime and Sbolt arrived in the mail. I was up til 2 am SCRAMBLIN' all over the city! I gave Bravo the first go as a limb, just to ease the rookie into his new position.
It's been a long wait, but Has/tak has finally nailed it as far as combining goes. It was worth the wait. The connections work so well, and the joints are superbly tight ans stable. I contorted Superion into all kinds of amazing poses.
I'm really excited about the interchangeability of this line. I see a lot of folks reminisce about having incomplete sets as kids. I'm no exception. I like to think of the 9 year old kid out there right now who, maybe only ever gets one voyager and at least 4 random limbs to make a complete giant. That kid is gonna have so much fun, and play with those guys forever.
This is such a smart move on Hasby's part. There is just so much room for play in this line.
and after seeing whats on the horizon ( like Ultra Magnus ) I can barely contain myself. I feel like... like this

Optimus Prime look weird and I find stupid the fact he pretend to be a "Scramble City" combiner. Optimus should combine with one other bot for a super mode and that's it.
Menasor, however, look awesome. Let's hope his limbs are all different molds. The best one so far, the MUST HAVE for me, is Defensor.
Also, Devastator. Man, I WANT that thing!
Leaders "G1" Megatron and Ultra Magnus are also "must haves" for me.
2015 will be VERY interesting!

I think this depends on what you want our of your Ultra Magnus. I own the MP Ultra Magnus and saw the Generations Leader version at Toy Fair yesterday.
ALT MODES:
The alt mode for the MP Magnus blows the Generations Magnus out of the water visually.
Winner - MP Magnus and it's not even close.
ROBOT MODE:
I like the IDW inspired robot mode on the Generations Magnus and his legs are a lot less bulky than the MP. However, MP Magnus is much bigger and more detailed. I'm leaning toward the G1 look more, but they're both good.
Winner - MP Magnus
TRANSFORMATION:
MP Ultra Magnus has an incredible transformation. It's amazingly engineered to transform the cab and trailer into robot mode. And you can still remove the cab from the trailer in bot mode!
Winner - TBD, but the MP transformation is wonderful.
COST:
MP - $190
Generations - $45
Winner - Everyone! If you have the money, get the MP. If you don't, you have a nice alternative. Win, win.

In IDW G1, Minimus Ambus IS Ultra Magnus. The entire altmode is just armor; it's how they both did an inner robot but also got around doing a boring White Prime.
Posted by ZeroWolf on February 15th, 2015 @ 11:17am CST
Minimus Ambus is the bot currently inside the magnus armour in the IDW comics.

Batsy, this is incorrect. All five are original, there transformations are very similar, but they are all different. Unless one goes the Takara route. Doesn't mean you have to like it though.-Kanrabat- wrote:Superion don't interest me mainly because it's only 3 molds for his whole body. A torso, one arm, one leg, and repaints of boths.

It's kinda complicated. He originally was his own person way back in the past, but in the present he's like the Dread Pirate Roberts: Many individuals assuming his name and appearance to carry on the legacy of the original, essentially making him a figure of legendary proportions - http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ultra_Magnus_(G1)/IDW_Generation_1_continuityIronhidensh wrote:Wait, so Ultra Magnus is just a shell of armor? To be honest, the real reasons are budget and space limitations. I can't buy everything, I cant display everything, so I must buy only what really, REALLY interest me.
Also, as far as possible, I would buy the Hasbro ones from the local stores. Unfortunately, deluxes are now 20$ and the voyagers 35$. Plus 15% taxes.
If I want to go the import route, it's always in US$. The Canadian $ is roughly worth only 75¢ for every 1$US. Add shipping and custom fees and I can only lose.
So, depending on availability and my finaces, I will see if I import the toys, or wait for a local sale.
But let's be honest. Distribution is always sh!t. I will wait for Ultra Magnus and Megatron, but I just KNOW I'll have to import Defensor and Devastator.

But... if that's my only complaint, I'm going to be pretty happy with him.

There's something about Menasor's colors that I've always liked. I'm not a huge fan of the car on his chest, but overall I'm digging him. Some of the individual alt modes are killer. Breakdown looks solid and Dead End looks incredible. Love, love, love Dead End's paint job.
I liked Defensor a lot more in person than I expected. I thought they did a good job of updating some of the alt modes to make them a bit more modern. First Aid is a must buy, but I'm not sure if I'll pick them all up.
I'm all in on the Cyclonus. His head sculpt bugs me a bit, but his alt mode is excellent. Mostly it's the scale that I'm attracted to. He can sit on a my 1986 movie shelf with my third party Galvatron and MP Magnus or he'd fit in fine with some of the masterpieces.
I'm also picking up the Leader Megatron. I think he'll look great next to MP-10. We were long overdue for a good looking G1 Megatron. I prefer the gun alt mode on MP-5, but his bot mode is really solid here. It's an easy buy for me.

The Movie toys will be replaced by the new RiD line. Shampoo bottle and one-step changers alike!
It will take so much space, that no retailers would want to order Generations products because they "have enough transformers for sale".
YOu'll have to pay the Ebay/import price to have any!

I have mp UM and it's definitely one of my fave toys ever. If it weren't for the MP version i'd be all over this. I will get it eventually but won't be a priority.
Megatron will be mine... protectabots too (never had them and obviously always wanted them as i had 3 decepticon gestalts and only aerialbots on the the other side.)
Cyclonus, though he doesn't look bad... I will skip depending on what he's meant to combine with as the previous generations cyclonus is right here on my desk and telling me wtf...
Thundercracker has grown on me but I'm not a huuuge fan of that mould and already have jetfire.
Warpaths' a pass as I don't think he's much good.
Armada megatron i have no interest in.
Viper - I really like that mould and I might've actually preferred if they referenced tailwind. If I don't manage to get powerglide I'll happily settle for this dude.
Constructicons - Do you take spare kidney???

That makes me wonder... is Hasbro planning for 2 years this time instead of 1? Hot Spot and Alpha Bravo/Blades are prime for retooling into Onslaught and Vortex and with the rumored Computron...

I imagine they'd have added chaingun accessories (one each with a 5mm peg and one each with a 5mm hole) to connect to their sides in motorcycle mode and somehow to their arms as pile-drivers in robot mode.
Also, I wonder if Groove is primarily intended to be a gun, not a chest-plate, for Defensor.

I bought a town house ... and it's still not enough. So that, combined with lack of money, has me scaling back on what I buy.
But stuff like this? I get rid of the old stuff ... like movie figures. I find the room. I find the money.
btw, your sig is too big. I could fix it for you but you wouldn't like my fix. One day I'll get you to read the guidelines.

Sigh... Where are the guidelines? What IS the maximum size of the picture? It would be nice if it would be clearly stated in the user control panel, like when the system refuse to update your sig when it have more than 5 links.

Ohhhh, me like the idea, they could even make those guns into combo pile-drivers.
He even has slots for them to peg on! And honestly, a new head wouldn't be needed, it'd be preferred, but not required.
Also, anybody royally pissed off about the Constructicons lack of articulation?
Would it have killed Hasbro's designers to give him frikkin' elbows?!

Would it have killed the designers? No. Would it have made Devestator unstable? There's a good chance ... considering the arms are used as heels.
Like I said, when it came to designing their primary goal would have been Devestator. The individual robots would have been secondary, hence so many sacrifices for the greater good.

They could've made his arms collapse so the elbows were out of the way for leg mode. After seeing Scrapper and Long Haul I'm passing on these. TFC Herc is my Devastator and these would've primarily been in bot mode and I cannot accept Voyager size figures with no elbows.Burn wrote:Madeus Prime wrote:Also, anybody royally pissed off about the Constructicons lack of articulation?

Yeah, but considering the leaps we've had in toy engineering in the Generations line, I think they still could've done a LOT better. Sorry, but if I could I'd still buy all those 3d Party Dev's over this guy, simply for the elbows and design.

You'd be willing to pay twice the price just for elbows?
Seriously think about it. 3P stuff is aimed at collectors, this is going to be a general release, they need to make it semi-affordable.
And for all we know there could have been other reasons as to why no elbows. They may not have had the time to work out how to incorporate them into the design process before they had to go into production. We don't know what other reasons there may have been.

I still reckon cost and stability. With ^normal arms" I can easily see Scrapper do as well as anybody doing a handstand while supporting 1,000 lbs. on his legs.

I would accept "cost" or "stability" reasons for lack of elbows way, way before I would ever accept a "they didn't have time to figure out how to do it the right way" type of excuse.
As I've said - it's a bummer that that's the way it has to be, but it does look like they designed these CW Constructions with Devastator in mind. And he is 18 inches tall, mind you.
