The ever so elegant site moderator and super hero, Counterpunch took the opportunity to speak with the gracious folks at Hasbro during Toy Fair. He was able to get answers to several questions. While these things are likely going to change over time or as circumstances change, it's still good information to take in right now.
General info from Hasbro Reps
-MP Rodimus is not immediately forthcoming-
So, there is real interest in bringing it over. However, don't expect to see anything soon. Essentially, this will depend on a retailer coming through with an exclusive. From the tone of the conversation, it seemed as if that was not going well. Remember though that it took around a year to get Grimlock from Japan to the Western markets. However, we also got info on that at Botcon and SDCC. So, I would look to that as your answer on if we'll see Rodimus in this year or next.
-Powercore Combiners appear to be done...ish-
There was no trace of the line at Toy Fair. The rep seemed surprised that Undertow wasn't at market yet and that the Dinobots were hard to find.

-Those Wal Mart SKUs for Arcee and Starscream-
Those were meant to be the Prime toys. They are NOT Classics style figures. Originally, the Prime toys were going to be fit into the Generations line. Now they are getting their own 4th quarter 2011 line. What we have seen so far is a pre-cursor wave, kind of to avoid the whole Animated show/toy debacle. We will get a new Prime and Megatron in larger sizes. Starscream will not necessarily get a larger toy.
-Mechtech-
The figures are smaller due to the Mechtech toys. It's not a cost of oil/production issue.
-Generations/RtS/United Decos-
How Takara gets the decos they do, is by individual pricing of their figures. For Hasbro, a wave has a cost to it that is split up amongst the figures in the wave. They have to ration out who gets what and how many paint apps. Takara is able to price a figure individually and as such, the budgets are different per figure. They aren't bound internally by wave. So, instead of Jazz costing $12 or 1500Y at retail, they can give him the appropriate deco and charge $13.42 or 1572Y...whatever it takes to cover the cost. It's a matter of flexibility.

Many or most of the toy decisions were made such that the toys would not be a rehashing of what they've already done. There was an effort to ensure that figures were fundamentally different.
Counterpunch can clarify any of these points, but he can't tell you anything about stuff he didn't ask about.
Other things that he took away from the show:
-DotM voyagers are SMALL.
-Hasbro really seems to be taking the product back to kids, perhaps leveling it down by 2 years in the age bracket.
-The Star Wars team really knows their shit.
-The GI Joe collectors are getting really, really, really nice 3 3/4 inch figures. Really.
-Mechtech looks dumb, but it is probably fun for kids.
-Ultimate Optimus Prime is kind of cool looking. Much better than the pics.
-Legends figures have really come into their own. (They're just not coming into Counterpunch's house!)

And it's not just marketing to who you think. Walmart, Target, TRU and the other "big" retailers had their version of Toy Fair back in November, so this stuff is aimed more to the small fish in the pond. A good portion of Toy Fair is devoted to the "emerging channel" items in a certain line that are not carried by Target or Walmart, just by smaller retailers (and sometimes TRU) to give them a chance against the big boys. A good example of this is Disney Pixar Cars 2 merch, where "emerging channel" stores can carry cars 2 packs that Target can not order.
I really feel bad for the small vendors who are trying to get their life's work out there to be carried by toy stores, some of them put so much into that one item.

See, I kinda take that in stride. People either don't realize or forget that Toyfair isn't the fan event people think it should be. It's to market toymakers new product lines and wares to stores looking to buy what they're offering. It's to hype the NEW lines and not so much the products that are already spoken for. Wait, if the DOTM toys are simply smaller than before because of the Mech Tech gimmick, WHY THE HECK DID THE REUSE THE SAME D@#N VOYAGER RATCHET FOR ALL THREE MOVIES??!! I WANTED A NEWLY MOLDED VOYAGER RATCHET THAT WAS SIMPLY SMALLER, AND WHEN HASBRO HAD THAT OPPORTUNITY, THEY DIDN'T CAPITALIZE ON IT!! WHAT THE HECK??!! (Ugh!! Anyway, I'm just glad I passed on HFTD Bumblebee so I could get the better looking DOTM deluxe Bumblebee. At least he's the same size.) One major upside the DOTM toys being smaller though is that Skids and Mudflap can be in better scale with ma collection.

Thanks for the investigative journalism, CP! It's nice to hear some actual answers for once. Good to know about Rodimus & Arcee, even if it's a little disappointing. Also some of the reasoning behind the paint app and figure sizing issues.

Despite most of the drones being terrible, I am really disappointed that PCC seems to be over. Grimstrone still needs a predcon-based buddy.

The entire wave 2 set of the PCCs was and still is hard to find along with most figures that were suppose to be released at the same time. Hell there are still no RTS figures released over here except for the Battle in Space pack. Since hasbro seems to know this hopefully they'll fix the problem. Kinda upset that theres not going to be a Generations Arcee, it would've been epic.

Yay, Mad Libs!
Elita-1 and Hot Shot Prime, her son of a legend, the great Optimus Prime, but sadly a bastard Autobot and certainly God forsaken. Hot Shot Prime ate a piece of unholy energon. A trick from Megatron, Hot Shot Prime continued matrix sucking, pie eating, and team killing fellow Autobots, hiding them in a pile of horse meat. Optimus was not impressed but saw it coming, as Autobots named Hot Shot, and certainly any character with flames, always disappoint him.... they always do. Thus Hot Shot was sent into another dimension. Little did Optimus know that it would be the Shattered Glass dimension, where Hot Shot Prime would serve with the Good Megatron, defying Optimus in yet another dimension. How silly the fates are!

I could have told them PCC was going downhill. They SHOULD have sold the limb drones separately. Instead they forced them into bundles, and often with weaker figures than the single packs.
And the mini-cons? Having four uses sounds good on paper, but doing all that (well) with minicon level engineering damn near impossible. I thrilled at the concept, but all I got was some robot contortionist doing awkward splits while pressed chest to chest with their commander.
More than a few of those arrangements? Very scaring.
Prime toys -
THANK YOU! They actually learned something! TFA's early death was engineered by their own actions against it and was completely inexcusable.
A semi-wave to hold us with mostly already quite good figures?
Full line later?
Bigger scale and better Prime and Megatron?
As long as they're listening, have they seen that TRON Deluxe Clu toy's gimmick? With the face? I figure if they could get it to not hurt transforming or articulation it would make a sweet TFP Soundwave.

Finally, an explanation I will accept. That said, Takara has a really good model that the fan demographic with their own money drool over. Just saying.
DOTM toys -

DotM toys are officially smaller? That's not horrible... It sucks for the movie collectors because comparable figures will now look off when put near each other (like when Jurassic Park III came out), but for the people who just complement their Classics/Generations toys with a few movie toys this works well - The movie cars (e.g. Bumblebee & Barricade) have been consistently over-sized next to Classics cars (e.g. Hot Rod & Prowl).
Ditto. I saw a Mindset once a couple of months ago, but that's been it.

When the first bits of info came out about the line, they said there was a pcc made from 28 figures, all the figures were interchangable and could make large combiners, out of several configurations, that was the gimmick. So far all it has been is the standard gestalt configuration, all poorly designed, why can't they make a gestalt that is better than a g1 gestalt, it's unbeleivable. It totaly proves my point that all the imature gimmicks aimed at the kiddy market don't work, either that or that kids aren't buying into transformers. Also Gestalts made with funky limbs aren't selling, so why are they repeating the same mistake. Fansproject have to keep mopping up the mess hasbro are making. Is fansproject actually Hasbro, and there way of releasing half of a design and throwing some rubbish together, then releasing the real parts which make the figure good at a higher price.

I love the PCCs, but distribution is horrific with them. The 2-packs are still stuck on Wave 1! The 5-packs have done well (no worse than the other lines, at least), so that whole interchangable combining drone gimmick IS selling. But Smolder, Huffer, and Searchlight evidently are not.

I never liked the Crapper-Core Comcrappers. Good riddance. However, it doesn't look like I'll be collecting much this year. None of the DotM figures did anything for me. Those giant weapons just make them look too weird.
Which means that except for the generations and reveal the shield figures that are coming out in the next few months, I have nothing to look forward to this year except the Prime figures this fall.

XD AH, hahahahahahaha!!! Um, quick question: IS IT VOYAGER??!! NO!! Having a deluxe Ratchet next to a deluxe BB is like a leader class Optimus with a leader class BB. (Oh, but Ironhide gets a new voyager class AND a leader class?! It clearly would've have made more sense as Ratchet is thinner/shorter than 'Hide, but taller than BB.

How many years went by without a new Ultra Magnus?
From his original appearance in 1986, there was Magnus nothing until Takara, not Hasbro, created God Magnus for the Car Robots line. Hasbro merely redecoed, repacked, and renamed it into Ultra Magnus.
(I won't count the Masterpiece because he never made it to US shelves, and he was a Takara item anyway.)
From there, the next one was a Heroes Of Cybertron PVC in the '00s.
Then there was the rare and highly sought after Titanium.
There was the Classics figure, but it was nothing but a BORING redeco of Classics Optimus.
FansProject merely made a trailer/armor set to make the Classics figure do something other than collect dust. They didn't make a new figure, they didn't steal a design, they made an accessory.
So, you can't win on that one.
Arcee?
We received a TM2 Blackarachnia redeco for Botcon one year, we received an Energon Scout Class (can't remember the class's name now) that was an original mold and design, but it took them 19 years to do it.
She had a new mold for the first movie, but that was scrapped so we ended up getting only the toy. A good one, but again, an after thought.
We received another Arcee for the second movie, and everyone wants to be crazed villagers and take pitchforks to the Frankenstein monster.
We're getting yet another bike Arcee, for TF:P, but yet again...it's a bike. After all these years, we've asked them to give us a car, just once. Just. Once. They haven't done it, they obviously won't do it, so here comes 3rd party to the rescue.
Will Hasbro tackle a car mode Arcee at this point? Probably not, not since the 3rd parties are, so I'll give you half a point on this one, but still...there wouldn't be a market it for it Hasbro would've just given us the damn figure.

1: Din't stop them releasing the mp trailer after several 3rd party companies released several versions.
2: The third party versions were released in small quantities compared to a full hasbro release, and were only bought by ault collectors. If us adult collectors are only a small part of the customer base [I think we are the bulk, but who's to say] then we really haven't dented the possible numbers that could be snapped up.
3: Third Party crap, there is no way Hasbro would have given us an Ultra Magnus Trailer that good, and if it wasn't for FansProject Gestalt Add ons, I would never have bought Superion or Bruticus, and the same could be said for alot of other people. Third Parties have not dented Hasbro's profits, if anything they have helped. Hasbro can easily step in and release what ever the third party has, as third parties can't produce in large numbers, hasbro could use there releases to test the water, if it works do it thereselves on large scale and eat all the profits, without the risk.

This may seem odd but I really like the PCC line, sure the drone’s commander fig’s sucked but I have a weak spot for suckish transformers, example I took BW Cheetor over GEN Cheetor, I got TFA waspinator and threw it out in favor of BW waspinator....so as you can see I have a weak spot for them

Actually what you said made my point. Hasbro is fine with the third party stuff so that's why they don't have to make certain figures because people are satisfied with the overpriced third party stuff. I for one don't wanna pay 100-200 bucks for a toy that's not worth the price in my opinion. If that Ultra Magnus armor was 40 or 50 bucks it'd be different.
But most people are satisfied with the third party stuff so whatever...I know I'm in the minority.

Are the PCC Dinobots and Constructicons out yet?
I'm partial to the PCC. I think it would've been better if they sold the weapons alone like mini-con three pics. I wouldn't snapped tons of those up to make all my Classics targetmasters.

May I ask about a size comparison regarding the Dotm and previous line deluxe sizing?
Are the Dotm cars or jets obviously smaller than their Tf1/Rotf and Classics/Generations/HftD cousins when together on the shelf? (In my head, I would treat a car 1cm or more shorter in length than a classics car an obvious difference, since the classics are already smaller than the movie toys).
(My guess is that any cross-line height differeneces in Bot mode wouldn't vary beyond half an inch, as the toys are designed with a final bot height in mind at expense of vehicle scale, if I understand correctly).

No, but Monzo did. The Hasbro guys knew what was happening with those and asked if we liked it. I have no doubt that we'll see a Wreck-gar head remold in the Western markets.
They had a VIP event where the various development teams talked about their figures. Out of ANY of the groups, it was the Star Wars guys cracking wise about characters, plot minutia, and how cool their stuff was. I'm a Star Wars fan too and I think maybe they were more knowledgeable than I am about it (which is rare for a rep).
They toys are starkly different at the Voyager class. They are absolutely out of scale with your previous stuff. Megatron is very very small. Ironhide is a touch undersized where his previous toy was a touch oversized. The deluxe figures are not as drastic. Leaders were still in scale. It's a mixed bag, but overall, this line is meant to be displayed independently I think.

No, but Monzo did. The Hasbro guys knew what was happening with those and asked if we liked it. I have no doubt that we'll see a Wreck-gar head remold in the Western markets.

Are the Dotm cars or jets obviously smaller than their Tf1/Rotf and Classics/Generations/HftD cousins when together on the shelf? (In my head, I would treat a car 1cm or more shorter in length than a classics car an obvious difference, since the classics are already smaller than the movie toys).
(My guess is that any cross-line height differeneces in Bot mode wouldn't vary beyond half an inch, as the toys are designed with a final bot height in mind at expense of vehicle scale, if I understand correctly).

They toys are starkly different at the Voyager class. They are absolutely out of scale with your previous stuff. Megatron is very very small. Ironhide is a touch undersized where his previous toy was a touch oversized. The deluxe figures are not as drastic. Leaders were still in scale. It's a mixed bag, but overall, this line is meant to be displayed independently I think.

Well, if there's to be no more Power Core Combiners...I'll just have to create one of my most wanted sets on my own!
Now, I have practically zero experience when it comes to figure-painting, but if I work hard I should be able to create a convincing set of Technobots (well, what would pass for Technobots in PCCs anyway). I'd start by getting a spare figure of Sledge and painting it in colours reminiscent of either Scattershot or Nosecone (or even both, if case may be). I'd then pick-up an extra set each of Rallybots and Destructicons (they have tons in Toys 'R Us, and other places have them going cheap-ish), and repainting the Destructicon arm-drones and Rallybot leg-drones in Technobot-inspired colours. Once it's done I'll find a way to apply Autobot-faction symbols to each of them, et voila! A PCC-ish set of Technobots! Yes, I know it's not very Technobot-y, but then again, the Protectobots and Stunticons don't really resemble their G1 counterparts either!
And with the leftover Throttler and Double Clutch figures, I could create a shoddy clone of Double Clutch as a Twin-pack set, and call it "Fall-Apart with Pointyhead"...you know...cause Throttler would sit on top of Fall-Apart as a pointy-head-looking thing...

This proves my theory that Generations was planned to continue alongside the movie line. Now the question becomes, what happens in Fall 2011 Wave 3 and beyond? More Prime? More Generations? This is a nice mystery to have.
Have you read the latest issue of the OTFCC magazine? It doesn't answer the question of when, but it does have nice info about the head molds that I'm surprised no one has been talking about yet (and if Seibertronions have been talking about it, I haven't seen it).

Those were meant to be the Prime toys. They are NOT Classics style figures. Originally, the Prime toys were going to be fit into the Generations line.

I seem to recall Hasbro saying that they could never release the classics version of Megatron again in the U.S. no matter the color scheme because of toy laws. But then these things are subject to change. I don't remember the source so take that as you will.
This picture of Demolition Rumble confirms he will be released in Reveal the Shield. No confirmation of Frenzy that I know of but it is most likely. I can't see Hasbro releasing one and not the other since they have been so fond of repaints.

That seems to be a bit of a current trend for Hasbro. I've noticed that G.I.Joe and Star Wars 3 3/4 inch figures have become really tiny compared to what they used to be.
I'm not surprised that some Transformers lines will be following suit.
