jON3.0 has sent us picture proof of the first sighting of the
Rescue Bots Beambox Video Game System. This sighting happened at the Wal*Mart Supercenter in Memphis Tennessee. This Skylanders like game is Hasbro's first foray into this gaming/collectible market and much like the Skylanders system, collectible figurines are required to play and unlock features in the game.
jON3.0 wrote:The Beambox itself was sold out but the shelf spot and price sticker were there as well as Bumblebee, Heatwave and Blades.
The figurines are $6.88 each, the console itself is $39.88.

No Thanks. Barely interested in this line. Maybe it will be popular with the kiddos.

I think even most kids are smart enough to see that this is just a second-rate version of Skylanders and Disney Infinity.

yep. Skylanders figures look a lot nicer than these appear to. The game itself, I've no clue. Disney Infinity...well, it is a rip-off, but one that is a license to print money. Maybe Hasbro should get some Webdiver molds and redeco them instead?

Ooh. Webdiver. Mmm. Why must you torture me so? I've wanted those since the early '00s.

Disney Interactive and some other Game company invested MILLIONS to develop Infinity. I'm sure Skylanders cost a lot to develop as well. I doubt this will come even close to the gameplay and is most assuredly marketed to little kids. It will be interesting to see if Hasbro decides to delve deeper into this type of game play.

Some fans have been wanting a Skylanders-esque game for the Transformers, and now Hasbro has given us one.

It look like what they've given us is a cheap knock-off. The Beambox console is like one of those 50-games-in-1 consoles that they sell at kiosks in the mall at Christmas. It's not a big-budget modern console video game with unlockable characters; it's a collection of simple kid-friendly games, probably no more sophisticated than your average free Flash browser game or Leapfrog game. Buying new figurines unlocks new games, not new content in the same game. Comparing this to Skylanders or Disney Infinity is like comparing the Go-Bot Stacks to Masterpiece Optimus Prime.

^^^^^^ What GuyIncognito said. ^^^^ This doesnt even come close to a Skylanders like game. They might fool 2 year olds.. .but anyone over 5 is going to say.. LAME.

When I see Skylander figures in stores, I'm sometimes tempted to buy one AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE THE GAME! The figurines are cool enough on their own!
Hasbro should stick to making Transformers figures and stop trying to imitate every new toy fad that comes down the pike.
