First, of course, was Springer which you can see here.
And now, thanks to a drastic remolding and redeco, that same base figure has been turned into Sandstorm! And quite an impressive retooling, too.
We've provided a few images here to get your feet wet, but you can click on any of the pictures below to dive right into the full gallery.
Generations Sandstorm
He looks amazing, doesn't he? Own him or plan on buying him? Not your cup of tea? Feel free to join the discussion and tell us what you think! Keep your optics tuned to Seibertron.com for the latest news, updates and best galleries around!

As I've said before, now that we have another Decepticon Triplechanger coming down the pipe (granted, Doubledealer was technically not considered a traditional Triplechanger, despite having three modes), this gives me the perfect excuse for picking up Sandstorm.
Autobot032 wrote:Can you believe it's been almost 30 years since the debut of Springer and his mold mate Sandstorm?
Springer and Sandstorm have never shared a mold until now. Similar vehicle modes, but not the same mold, and they are not retooled from each other.

I have Generations Air Raid filling in for my CHUG Broadside.

I should've clarified. I meant their current mold is shared. I was trying to say that Springer and Sandstorm are almost 30, period.
I'll correct that.

Oh, oh. I gotcha, now. Sorry.

I hope this extensive level of retooling continues to be a trend, even if just for a few select molds.

Same here. I'd have almost no problem throwing money Hasbro's way if their remolds were as drastic as this.
Another good example is TakaraTomy's Jet Vehicon. The transformation on the torso is pretty much the same, plus their faces, but that's the end of it. Everything else is different, such as the wings (of course), the forearms are a completely new mold, the hood, etc. You get the idea. It was such a drastic change that standing them next to each other, you probably wouldn't be able to tell they shared the same mold at first. It always takes a second glance to be sure. Those are the remolds I like.

Noideaforaname wrote:As cool as the retooling is, and this is NOT a complaint, I do have to wonder why they did it. Seems like Sandstorm would've been more source-accurate with just the new head (lack of faceplate notwithstanding) and none of the VTOL bits.
The more different they look or the more distinct they are, the greater the chance of a sale with the less knowledge crowds. Think of it this way: ever seen Mega Man X and Zero side by side? They share a base, but their creator wanted to keep their silhouettes distinct to make them more unique from each other. When Axl was introduced, that's the advice he gave his designers
I hope this extensive level of retooling continues to be a trend, even if just for a few select molds.
Same here!

Even though I'm curently not considering getting Megatron & Chop Shop (or any of them besides Cosmos & Sky High, Swerve & Blast Master, and maybe Tailgate & whoever comes with him), I'm a little disappointed that Megatron is a teewee bit shorter than Optimus Prime.
Megatron Wolf wrote:i saw prime & bumblebee in walmart today & these are not worth $10, they're slightly bigger than a legends but smaller than a commander and yet they cost more that the latter.
I could have sworn they were in between a Commander and a Scout. If they're not, they're definitely the same size as a Commander. Plus, with the extra bit of plastic that are the Targetmaster partners, that could raise the price a dollar or two more. I'd say they're worth the &10 everyone's charging.
What sickens me more is that TRU will probably charge $13 or $15 for them.
My Toys "R" Us is charging $10 a piece for them so far. Keyword, "so far".

The only thing that is bigger on Sandstorm are those two huge wheels on his back. Everything is the same size.

The legs on Sandstorm feel smaller than those on Springer as well.

I can see it now. Take those wheels away and they are the same size. I gotta say the wheels do a good job of bulking sandstorm out though.

I didn't know how much Sandstorm's G1 figue REALLY looks like Energon Cliffy's. That's kinda nifty.

The set is based on the Fall Of Cybertron Bruticus mold, but features a brand new deco with retooled heads and new weapons! And of course, it's Scramble City in it's design, allowing you to put any limb robot into a right or left configuration of both a leg and arm, adding to the level of play and maximizing their value.
These are available at retail and are currently priced at $12.99 per 'bot. Can't wait to see more? Click on any of the figure pictures below and you'll taken to the Seibertron.com galleries where you can see all of Ruination, the individual Wreckers and so many more!
First up is Ruination, the combined form of the Wreckers:
Followed by:

Generations Impactor
(Deluxe Class)
Generations Whirl
(Deluxe Class)
Generations Roadbuster

However, Wazzpinator needzzz gun that looks like Wazzpinator...
Megatron? meh. Actually reminds me a lot of his *other*Titanium transforming figure. I'm not sure if I'll ne assigning ChopShop to FOC Kickback or letting him runaround with hardshell.
And also, I'd kinda really like to see whomever did the Armada molds be brought back. The triplechanging targetmasterminicons we're seeing now aren't bad, but they're lacking a bit in their bot modes. And yes, I realize that its hard to cram three modes into the figs, and yes, I relaize i couldn't draw my way out of a wet paper bag if someone asked me to do better, but Armada had Makeshift, Terradive, Firebot, Prowl, Gunbarrl, Thunderwing, leader-1 sorta, distinctive gun, robot, and vehicle modes. And actual legs, if not actual knees...

The combination of the new deco, retooled sculpts, and new accessories really make this set stand apart from the FoC Combaticons in a good way.

1) Still better than endless amounts of straight repaints like they've done in the past, wouldn't you say?
2) Don't like it? Don't buy it.
And "all the money" is fairly subjective. We have no sales numbers, so yeah...
Great galleries as always, Ryan, reconfirming getting them for sure.

I'm Glad we get new weapons and new heads on repaint these days. Back in the days we almost never get new heads. New head with a different paint scheme is great!
Impactor and Roadbuster looks awesome in my Wreckers Shelf! =]
the other three... I'll just throw in my FOC shelf.
Great pictures btw!

oh please. of course they look better. it's the freaking Wreckers we're talkin about.
overall, if the toys weren't garnering revenue, hasbro wouldn't continue to push em out like this.
i understand that since it's a combiner set, the whole "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality comes into play, but geez. those boys deserve better than this. they know they can do better. we all do. hasbro's just being lazy, knowing that diehard transformers fan'll eat up whatever they spew out.
that being said, it's the Wreckers. hell yea i'm coppin em. but i'm not happy about the way they're bring treated.

It's still a step in the right direction, since Roadbuster and Whirl straight repaints at first (see Cybertron Defense Hot Shot, Cybertron Legends Evac and Movie Voyager Evac).

I'd love to see all of the main Wreckers done right, including a proper Impactor. Give me a Rack n' Ruin and an Emirate Xaaron to boot and I'll be extremely happy.
I agree. I think Hasbro likes to use redecos and retools as a means to "test the waters" for more obscure characters without breaking the bank on a whole new mold. I like such careful thinking, and the creativity forced as a consequence.
Question is, where will they end up? I guess I can use them with GDO Springer and FOC Ultra Magnus.

That's the only thing that stopping me from getting these guys. That we'll eventually get better, original versions later on. Whirl, who is the weakest of this set due to his poor and inaccurate color scheme, is getting an original mold. And I suspect that's probably why they gave him such an inaccurate color scheme. To differentiate the two.
Plus the club is doing Ironfist as a subscription figure. I'm honestly surprised they didn't save him for a box set of Wreckers. That surely would have been a slam dunk box set for FunPub. The fact that they're not seems like they know we will see more original Wreckers some time soon.

Like wise. Seeing all these repaints makes me upset as well. I'm really smdh. I still can't get over that I wasted 80 or so dollars on generations bruticus. This entire situation with this toy is Not Good. What other toy maker just throws some different paint on a figure and then goes " hey everybody, here is a new toy". No, that's not a new toy, you just painted it a different color.
And just the sight of these makes me want to forget about hasbro and only collect Masterpieces.

The first years of G1 had plenty of repaints and retools yet nobody complained...
Repaints and retools are a necessary evil though. Hasbro has stated that in order to break even with the costs of the development of a toy, the mold has to have at least two different releases.

A figure should get no more than one repaint. And if hasbro wants to do more than one then the second repaint has to be a drastic retool like Generations Sandstorm and mp-Smokescreen. This is how I fell and my opinion.
