Dinobot also looks great; not perfect (the raptor mode's mammaries are somewhat amusing) but considering the pricepoint he's quite something. I'd argue in some ways he's more impressive than the MP in managing to look good in both modes with far less panel-massaging pain and almost no faux-parts.
Ultra Magnus though, I think I like the Siege version better. The separate truck mode is massively disappointing and very bland without the big blue "ramming prow" and in general he just doesn't look great without the Cybertronian flair.

Dinobot looks awesome. The chest situation in raptor mode is uh......distracting, but not a deal breaker.

The trailer has been modified, but only slightly. It's not that obvious unless you have Siege Magnus next to him.

yeah the sides are way more open, there might be more but that's the first thing I noticed

Airrazor not sure of the four rectangle tabs/gaps on the back of bird mode unless a Magnaboss is in the works, other than that slightly spoiling the looks pretty sure I'll be picking her up.
Dinobot and his two Kate Winslets...I mean floatation devices is a thing, the way his dino arms are posed are pretty bad, might need some adjusting. Like SS86 Grimlock hes missing dental work lol they both must have been smacked in the gob at some point. For all its flaws I might have to pick him up but some of the photos are eye watering bad from belly chuckles.
*the mistransformation on dinobot in one of the photos having hollow legs on the outer -sheesh who transforms and takes these photos

Emerje wrote:BTW, now that I'm home from work and not looking at tiny photos on my phone I'm not at all convinced just from the pics that Dinobot's legs are based on the toy. I'm seeing cartoon accuracy with gold shins and orange accents on the sides.
Guess that was just a trick of the light, since it's a solid plastic colour afterall.
By the way that small white magnus looks terrible. While I get that the alt mode wasn't G1 accurate the first time, the blue front of the vehicle made the white robot look better since that part looked like added kibble rather than the small robot having a backside with lots of reach. There's a lot less retooling than I imagined, it's really just the front half of the cab (two pieces).
Also, holy mistransfrmation Batman!
LOVE airrazor!!!!!! And Dinobot too.

They are to insert into the holes in the back of his super mode chest.

Still a great figure though. I think they pulled this off better than the $250+ Masterpiece figure did (which I still think was way too big).

generally speaking yes, but he used his dino hands quite a bit too. Usually when he was walking or running in beast mode his hands were like that. But I will admit, these pics do make his dino hands seem a bit off somehow. of course he's also clearly mistransformed in one pic, so that could be making it seem off too.

What are the chances that the action poses have the colors wrong and the box art is right?

Yeah good point, he waved those things around a lot when he was snarling at the other maximals lol
From the last pic it seems like the dino hands have a similar joint to vertebreak's feet, though it looks like they fold down to be put away or something. From what I can see it just seems like the "fingers" look way too long and it looks off

Not sure what the chances are but that would be pretty cool, especially since the dino mode is colored in a way that's more show accurate in the box art

Airazor looks really good. Loving the Horus mode.
As for Magnus, the retool works, the small robot mode kind of suffers now since the upper body now makes him passively barrel chested, but I really like the look of the cab in truck mode.
Also, yes his butt is mistransformed in all the inner robot pictures. It should be slid up onto his back.
I already have Netflix Magnus, so not sure I need this one, but I may consider it if only to have the earth mode. Decisions... decisions...
Also, Takara repaint into Powered Convoy in 3...2...1...

Dinobot looks great in robot mode, especially the headsculpt. His raptor mode is ok, but I think they did about the best they could. The raptor hands are pretty weird, though, and it would definitely be better if his robot hips were brown for the raptor's sake. I'm really glad to see that they didn't skimp on Dinobot's weapons.
Ultra Magnus looks ok. The new robot mode looks good and I like it more than the Siege version, but the inner robot is definitely a downgrade and the alt mode doesn't look particularly cohesive. An interesting note, he seems to have obvious places for insignias on his right shoulder and towards the front of each side of the trailer, but he doesn't, instead only having one on his front bumper. Weird.

Magnus is very mistransformed.
The trailer should peg in a bit further forward, to cover his inner robot arms and hands. His trailer should start over his shoulders (the red part), not back by his legs. Also his shoulder pieces look retooled from Siege/Netflix to be flatter and more G1. And it looks like his trailer panels have been retooled to removing one hinge and the front most panel. Not sure why they would do that.
Magnus should look much better when he is properly put together in all of his modes.

Back of the box art shows the trailer to be that way so it is how it has meant to be attached

Probably close to 0, as the pictures may have even been taken from actual production figures, while the box art is just a cg render, which probably predates the final color decisions by quite a bit, given we've seen those be inaccurate to the final look many times before. Like with Earthrise Optimus Prime or Dark of the Moon Optimus Prime

And the back of the box has never been wrong?
Nope, its definitely wrong. The red back panel attaches over the shoulders and around the smokestacks.
You can just make out the chest piece dipping down into the trailer when it should be straight when correctly transformed and pegged into the trailer side panels and the top of the shin panels.
The picture on the back of the box is clearly missing the shoulder pylons that attach underneath the trailer and onto the inner robot's lower leg peg.
The back of the box in this case is incredibly wrong.

Airazor. Transformation seems fairly typical birdformers, but there seems to be some additional neat tricks. Love how posable the wing is.
Magnus. Seesh, they really on a tight rush job on him, it seems. The photographer, i mean. Might wait for takara's pics first, since they tend to do must better job than hasbro's.

Magnus is transformed correctly on the back of the box. The slot where the trailer attaches to the clips on the inner robot's legs has been moved to the first panel instead of the second one, which spaces the trailer farther out from the cab. The trailer will not cover the inner robot's arms.

Airazor still looks great, she actually looks really good with the wings visible and I'm not sure why the in-package shot we saw before obscures them. That Horus mode/mistransformation is hilarious, and the bird mode looks pretty solid. I still kinda wish she had her darker show coloration for her bot mode, but since realistic alt modes are one of the focuses of the line, I'm fine with the brown. I honestly did not expect to like Airazor as much as I do, that's awesome. I've also had a thought now about a real out-of-left-field repaint/Selects they can do from this that could be interesting...
Dinobot having both weapons is great, his legs are...kinda off-looking being fully gold/orange now that we can see it better, but not at all a deal-breaker considering how perfect the rest of the bot mode looks. The beast mode is, admittedly, a bit of a mixed bag. I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt for now in that the bot mode legs might be able to sit more flush than in those shots (considering, again, all of Magnus's shots were wrong), although the dino-bust is kinda unavoidable by nature with this design. The hands are weird, but they might look good for some lunging poses. The head doesn't bother me, I'm not so dedicated that I care how many teeth he has. I think he actually does have the show-accurate stripe fade on the alt mode though, like the box shows, I think the lighting is obscuring it but I can kinda make it out in 2 of those shots. The stripes are clearly visible in the mistransformed no background shot, ignore that part. Overall, still very excited for Dinobot, glad we're getting official reveals again.
Also Emerje, thanks for clearing up the Loudpedal conversation.

Apparently, the original plan for Magnus was to retool the armor to fit ER Prime, but that ended up being too expensive. I totally would have bought that as a Commander with a slew of accessories and maybe a smaller figure included with him, like a Core Fossilizer.

Airazor: YES
Ultram Magnus: Bleh
Dinoboobs are off-putting but hell, the original had feet for a chest so I can live with it if that's the cost for everything else.
Airazor's wings look spectacular and, well, so does the rest of her. Loving the bird head mode.
And then there's Magnus. I wasn't going to get him, but now I'm really not going to get him. I have Siege and don't particularly like that one either but it's better than this mess. But he sure do got a badonk!

I've already got Blackarachnia preordered to pair with my Silverbolt, but I guess now I'll now have to watch out for the Big Cat to go with Airazor.

Ultra Magnus however, is a huge letdown. Only the front of the cab have been changed. The rest is exactly the same. It's as if the truck put on some cheap dollar store mask while claiming "I'm totally Earth Mode, guys!". The Siege original is vastly superior because at least, everything is consistent.

Dinobot is kinda bittersweet for me. Robot mode is spot-on but that raptor mode suffers. Like, not the worst dino-mode, but an upgrade kit is likely on the horizon. Still a guaranteed buy tho, and I think I'd rather have the weird yellow raptor chest than the gray streak running all the way up his leg and torso like on the box photo.
(Also, everyone's over here talking about his dino chest and head, but not about his goofy-ass raptor hands )
Magnus is fine. I can't say I like him overall more than Siege, but I wasn't planning on getting him anyhow. Maybe if he shows up cheap. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

True, but he seems to have always had these weird ET-like fingers in the show. The sculpting of fusing them together just makes them weirder.

Once again, we disagree.Rodimus Prime wrote:Hmm. It's gonna be tough to choose between Siege and Kingdom Magnus. I'm buying figures mainly to display on robot mode, so the Kingdom version looks better without the greeble, and I also like the truck mode better.
As a fan of the G1 toy (one of the most greeble-tastic toys in the whole of G1) I find the slight greeble reduction on his shoulders and chest a negative (although a minor one).
Definitely prefer the SIEGE version having the toy shoulders and the traction surface grating on the chest, even if it's vestigial in that case. But that's me.
No, the trailer is also a bit tweaked. It now has imitations of G1 Magnus' trailer pillars, and the shoulder pylons mount further forward so that the cab sticks out instead of being partly covered by the upper deck.Rodimus Prime wrote:But that smaller robot looks atrocious. I'm guessing the trailer/armor is the same, only the small robot/cab got reworked.
I think the smaller robot would look better with full-service detailing. And perhaps different-color lower legs a la Classics Ultra Magnus.
Actually, the sides themselves are a little less open, because the RiD Magnus open grating has been covered on the frontmost and rearmost panels by imitations of the G1 trailer's pillars. The extra openness comes from the cab protruding more.Hellscream9999 wrote:Omegatron. wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:I'm guessing the trailer/armor is the same, only the small robot/cab got reworked.

Magnus' transformation has been altered. The only mistransformation is failing to flip the codpiece around in armored robot mode.Overcracker wrote:Magnus is very mistransformed.
It's been changed so that the cab sticks out more, in an attempt to make him look less like RiD and more like G1. It may still be possible to connect it like the SIEGE version was, but the way it's shown is a deliberate change.Overcracker wrote:The trailer should peg in a bit further forward, to cover his inner robot arms and hands. The SIEGE ones are equally G1, these just look more like the animation model (which had a flat, smooth right shoulder so they could put a faction symbol on it, and a dumbed-down version of the toy detailing on the left shoulder) than the toy.Overcracker wrote:Also his shoulder pieces look retooled from Siege/Netflix to be flatter and more G1
They didn't remove the frontmost panel; they replaced the frontmost and rearmost panels with new ones that have representations of the G1 toy's trailer pillars.Overcracker wrote:And it looks like his trailer panels have been retooled to removing one hinge and the front most panel. Not sure why they would do that.
Nor did they remove a hinge - it's just set up slightly differently because the upper deck taillights are now part of the white shin/inner calf pieces instead of being part of the trailer side panels.
For the most part, he already is. Aside from the failure to collapse the inner robot chest inward in one shot, and the failure to turn his codpiece around.Overcracker wrote:Magnus should look much better when he is properly put together in all of his modes.
No, but that's not the case here. The stock photo, the back of box photo, and the actual drawn art show it like that.Overcracker wrote:blackeyedprime wrote:Overcracker wrote:

And the back of the box has never been wrong?
No, that's where it attached on the SIEGE version. Like I said, he's been reworked in an effort to make him look more G1. Part of that is that the shoulder pylons, to which the cab attaches, are now connected to the forward-middle trailer panels.Overcracker wrote:Nope, its definitely wrong. The red back panel attaches over the shoulders and around the smokestacks.
What you can actually make out is the forearm covers, pegged in exactly where they should be. The chest is pegged in exactly where it's supposed to be. If anything, the blue part projects downward a bit more, but that's because it's been changed to be slightly more like MP-22 than a flattened version of the G1 toy.Overcracker wrote:You can just make out the chest piece dipping down into the trailer when it should be straight when correctly transformed and pegged into the trailer side panels and the top of the shin panels.
Oh really?Overcracker wrote:The picture on the back of the box is clearly missing the shoulder pylons that attach underneath the trailer and onto the inner robot's lower leg peg.
Take a close look by the cab's rear wheels. Take a good, hard look. Gee, that blue boxy thing with a narrower white boxy thing protruding from it sure looks an awful lot like a shoulder pylon!
No, I'm afraid that would be you. You are the one who is incredibly wrong. You're so wrong about this you remind me of me circa 2011-12 on certain forums...Overcracker wrote:The back of the box in this case is incredibly wrong.
