Thundercracker will be necessary, i have the other 2 seekers already.
Slug looks good, I am liking him more and more. I look forward to forming core Volcanicus

About Metalhawk, I think he's going to be an entirely new mold based entirely on the inner bot. The whole "bot mode looks like the shell" thing really only works for the Decepticons monsters with more interesting faces. I also think they'll have a second use built in, maybe as a year 3 character, possibly even a pre-tool that suits the mold better.

Since Skywarp came with a fork, it's too bad Thundercracker won't come with a spoon.

The wheels are red because they are on the same plastic tree as the other red pieces. All those pieces will either be red or black.

Then the sprue tree is screwed up if someone thought red wheels was a good idea on a car. Ugh. Definitely will have to figure out a way to fix it when I get one in hand. Those red wheels look atrocious!

Not quite like G1. It conceals inside his weapon in robot mode, which is his tail in alt mode. It never has to be set to the side like a G1 combiner's head.

I can't believe there's still people complaining about repaints nowadays. The complaints should have peaked and ended in 1984 at most.

Consider it baby steps. Bigger isn't always better when it comes to forgiveness for "cheating". We've seen CW Devastator, we're getting MP Raiden, now we're seeing the opposite end of the spectrum with the Core Class Dinobots.

Unfortunately, with these obscure Japanese characters, there are no steps, you get one shot in this generation, better get it right. (I know many fans who would like to see retakes on God Ginrai and Overlord from the TR/Legends versions, but it isn't happening). I'm of course supporting MPG Trainbots, because now I know Generations ones wont be happening, although that would have been my preference as I prefer the look of UW Dev all together as opposed to what we've seen so far for MPG Raiden.
Core Class Dinoking will no doubt look impressive, but as long as he dosen't scale with my other combiners, he will be a begrudging addition to me collection at best, with no proper place.

Jelze Bunnycat wrote:Back to Crosscut... the red wheels, why did they settle with them in the planning? I mean, from what I can tell they're gangmolded with the elbows and hips among other parts, so they must be a different plastic, the kind used for joints, but still, was there no other option other than making more parts of Crosscut black then planing them red?
I wondered that at first, but not, that can't possibly be true. The front bumper and grill is red plastic painted black and a portion of the car body is red plastic painted silver. Looking at Skid, Burn Out and Crankcase there's definitely three solid colored sprues (plus clear blue) on this mold. The tires are molded with the shins, hips, elbows and fists. Since the shins are painted on Crosscut it isn't possible for these to be unpaintable plastic. All of this seems to be because they wanted him to have red fist, at which point you have to wonder why they didn't just paint the fists red on black plastic?

Crosscut is a toy fans wanted as soon as we saw we were hitting a new Skids mold. I'm surprised to read such a statement from you as I assumed a TF fan and reviewer would know of this character.
FYI, to anyone curious, while the decisions here are odd, thus isn't the first time we got red wheels (RID Soundwave rocked them) or that the wheels colour is changed due to other parts being a different colour, which happened with one of the redecos for classics Hot Rod.
But yes, the choice here is strange. I'm not a fan of this mold anyway, and I have no space for non essentials, so I won't be getting him.
Posted by ZeldaTheSwordsman on January 6th, 2023 @ 3:40am CST
They may have settled for leaving the wheels red to avoid a mismatch; that or all the silver ate up the paint budget. As for not painting the hands red instead... it's better for joint bits like that to be cast in the desired color, if possible.
They don't bother me that much, I'm still getting him if I can, and if it comes to it I can always paint the wheels myself.
I had the same thought about him being a lateral move. He trades gimmicks in for somewhat more free articulation and a real left hand, but that's about it. And he can't even use the hand as well as you might like due to the tail still being permanently attached to the arm. I do still want to get him at some point, just for the play potential he does have, but the reissue original is higher-priority.King Kuuga wrote:God I'm loving the hell out of Megatron. Not great, I felt that even at the time. He's a lateral move from his original figure. Transforming it for these pictures was unpleasant.

I have a joke headcanon that a bad breakup between Megatron & his beast mode head is why he suddenly hates beast modes in BM.
While both are in need of a Commander re-do (undersized cab robots on both, though felt more keenly on Optimus, Optimus' trailer being a shadow of what the G1 toy offers and scaling better with the freakin' Classics Deluxe, Magnus' trailer only holding two cars tops and the tweaks to make Kingdom's altmode slightly more G1 being kinda a joke), Magnus coming first would make sense since 1. he's more associated with the movie, and 2. Legacy Evolution is already getting a Commander Optimus Prime in the form of Armada Optimus, so doing Magnus first stands out more.Overcracker wrote:SS Commander intrigues me.
While I can understand it being SS-86 Magnus, part of me wonders if Hasbro isn't doing an actual SS-86 Prime in Commander Class.
By all accounts Earthrise Prime is pretty much SS-86 Prime, but one can argue the same thing about Kingdom Magnus.
Mmm, both Leader-class takes on Ultra Magnus have had substantial tradeoffs; this is a chance for overall improved accuracy and play value. A Commander-class Ultra Magnus would be able to have a larger, more accurate trailer with better carrying capacity than either the CW version or the WFC versions, and an articulated connection to the trailer that the WFC version lacks. And it would be able to have the base & repair modes the original toy is capable of, maybe even the head + breastplate minijet although I don't consider that entirely likely.Overcracker wrote:The Commander Class is puzzling, as they have proven they can make a Magnus in Leader Class, and it still works fine. Not sure I can find any valid reason for it being Commander Class.
You say "This soon", but... strictly speaking the last fully new Ultra Magnus was in SIEGE, which back in 2019. Kingdom was just a tweaked rerelease of that, and even that was in a line of two years ago at this point. The Magnus we got last year was a Diaclone/SG redeco (and also an exclusive).Overcracker wrote:If this were a new G1 Prime mold that is both larger and more detailed, that could be used as a Magnus inner robot, it might make a bit more sense. Maybe Magnus is the pretool to a brand new Prime.
I just don't see them doing another Magnus this soon and not a Prime too.
That being said, I do see (and hope for) it being also moldmated to a new Optimus Prime. But it makes sense to me that Magnus would come out first, for reasons stated above.
The possibility, but I think it's a faaaaaaairly minute one. If it was a Pulse exclusive, maybe, but I don't think retailers would be impressed.Overcracker wrote:Of course there's always the possibility it's just Kingdom Magnus with a bunch of accessories to make up the price difference.
While that's true enough... doing him as a cartoon-flavor OSKO of Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus wouldn't offer as much play value as a separate cab robot would and they do try to pack a good bit of play value into Commander-class figures.ZeroWolf wrote:If it were Titan class I may have joked it was a transforming autobot city playset
Also I wouldn't expect a white prime from ss86 ultra magnus, as pointed out, there wasn't one in the toon
Additionally, doing a separate cab robot that could then be used for a new Optimus would let them get more mileage out of the mold.
Anyway, I got Legacy Pointblank for Christmas and am quite enjoying him.

Likely in the SS86 line at some point. It's odd because as its generally accepted that SS86 was borne simply out of not having enough slots to fit everything in the annual Generations Mainline. Still while I thought some Siege, and certainly ER and Kingdom releases (of characters that appeared in the 86 Movie) were "good enough" stand ins for SS86, it seems that certainly isn't the case (SS86 Ironhide for example).
However, while we may get things like a "clean deco" Siege Springer in SS86. I cant see Hasbro doing another Galvatron (especially with the clean version now in Legacy), or another Rodimus or Cyclonus, the Kingdom Versions were for all intents and purposes SS86.

Think of it like how the original Classics line was only supposed to be a filler line that lived and died from 2006 to 2007. Its sheer popularity led it to take on a whole new life of its own, with Universe serving as a direct continuation and expansion. So too has Studio Series 86 surpassed its original intention.o.supreme wrote:It's odd because as its generally accepted that SS86 was borne simply out of not having enough slots to fit everything in the annual Generations Mainline.

How is it odd when that purpose still exists, thanks to Legacy continuing to give space to non-G1 figures? I'd argue that's why SS86 has been continued and expanded, in fact.o.supreme wrote:It's odd because as its generally accepted that SS86 was borne simply out of not having enough slots to fit everything in the annual Generations Mainline.
Don't overthink it - plenty of them still are (including the SIEGE and ER versions of Ironhide, because SS86 Ironhide is a failure joke waste of plastic). But some, namely Kingdom UM & the Kingdom repack of ER Arcee, were just rush-job stand-ins so that they had some sort of representation of the movie-introduced characters on the shelves for the 35th anniversary.o.supreme wrote:Still while I thought some Siege, and certainly ER and Kingdom releases (of characters that appeared in the 86 Movie) were "good enough" stand ins for SS86, it seems that certainly isn't the case (SS86 Ironhide for example).
SS86 Ironhide feels like a case of them having a spare slot and deciding to see if they could use it to do a more definitive version of him just because he was in the movie. But it wasn't effort well spent, I'd say, because he's ultimately just ER with an integrated roof. And by D-Max's account is a panel-y mess as a result.
There, I solidly agree with you.o.supreme wrote:However, while we may get things like a "clean deco" Siege Springer in SS86. I know this is hypothetical talk, but I do hope a CC Prime ends up being part of the SS86 subline.
I’m so much more likely to buy it if it’s decently screen accurate and free of any extra mainline gimmick of that time, as well as the nasty Siege greebling & battle damage paint apps. I’m so glad that’s all being left in the past, & will never be a part of SS86.
This also makes me glad I never opened my NF Prime; he and Soundwave both look great in that packaging.
The only drawback for me with a CC OP will be the fact that I won’t display the trailer; it will most likely stay packed away.
I’m also glad I never went for that Amazon exclusive 2 pack to get ER Ratchet.
I will agree there’s really no reason for a new Galvatron (although I still wish his color was different), Rodimus, or Cyclonus.
Even for Kup and Blurr who imo were shortchanged with their face sculpts, I don’t see how a retool, or any change could be enough of an improvement to get me to buy another version.
The rest of those two really is all good enough for me.
I would’ve loved for the seekers, Soundwave, Astrotrain, & Shockwave to have joined Ironhide in the SS86 treatment, but knowing that’s not going to happen in 2024, I’ll be done collecting and gone-zo by the time it ever would.

And while a lot of the issues stem from the need of function to combine, it’s just sad how bad he really is…
Snarl is my favorite, so if his Core version is good, I may just get him.
In fact, if they’re good, I’d still get Grimlock and Swoop as well.
But I have very little hope for any of this to really happen.
It’s not even that I have too high of expectations; these are Core class figures…
But man, these Dinobots could have been so much better.

The main line Commanders should really be left to large or gimmicky characters that can benefit from the increased price point, SS Commanders should be for characters that need the price point to obtain proper screen accuracy in both modes. We've got our main line Optimus Prime several times over, time for our screen accurate one with fully loaded trailer and I'd rather he wasn't taking up space that could go to a new Fire Convoy, Energon Prime, Tidal Wave and so on. They'll hopefully make the SS Commander interchangeable between SS proper and SS86 and not just SS86 because I'd like to see Scorn as a Commander, he's bigger than Grimlock (who's already pushed the limits of the price point) in the movie and would really benefit from the class (Slug and Strafe can be Leaders).

Hasbro used to sell Transformers branded stands, but they didn't seem to be very popular. I bought a few Gundam Action Bases, they'll hold up a WFC Seeker in their 3mm stand port no problem.
I ordered some of these which should be able to hold up a Deluxe or Core figure just fine since they're basically unmarked figma and Nendoroid stands

I hear ya!
And you could probably get back most of that difference by selling off what you don’t want from those 4 pks.
Which reminds me of selling Rodimus’s trailer for $30 after getting him on sale for $65.
At this point I could just pretend that trailer is in a box in my basement.
Meaning I haven’t missed it one bit.
Meanwhile, I have an extremely good voyager-almost-leader-class figure on my shelf that was only $35.
I probably wouldn’t sell CC Prime’s trailer, but who knows…
Don’t you think he the figure) will be a brand new mold?
I’m betting of the $90, the figure alone will be worth $45+ at least.

I was going to say I can't imagine dropping $80 for a toy and keeping $50 of it set aside, but my Buzzworthy Bumblebee 4-packs would disagree.
I don't know, this is all hypothetical, right? I'm a big fan of the Siege and Earthrise engineering, so I don't think they'd need to reinvent the wheel. There are lots of little things they could clean up for the Earthrise version like the vestigial Siege legs, but I'm not sure how much extra value they could pack into the base figure.

Oh yeah, definitely hypothetical.
Not to mention the current Prime figures(s) are right in scale with all of the other ER figures.
I also wonder what all they could do with the trailer to make it $50 worth, but keep it in proportion with a current Prime mold. By the time this actually happens, an energon axe and a bunch of blast effects will seem like really cheap, lame filler. I get a matrix is a staple, but should that even be counted as an extra anymore??
-edit-
And if the base figure is just a retool, I’d expect a whole lot from that trailer. And yet, past the classic G1 interior stuff, what else is there?

I gave him the armor and Delta Magnus head of one of my two SG Ultra Magnus toys, to give him the Super Mode that G1 Optimus never had and should have had back in 1986, but was robbed of by Hasbro's choosing to kill off Optimus an make the Powered Convoy toy a separate character.
Weird, I did the exact same thing when the two came in, it's still next to me that way. I mainly did it out of curiosity, I don't intend to keep it that way since I really like the way Tenseg Prime's colors turned out and I don't like inner Delta/SG UM as much as I like the eHobby Magna Convoy I already have.

As someone with zero standing preorders, I just checked the availability on the listings of that next wave and was told the following:Rodimus Prime wrote:Amazon just notified me that Needlenose will be delivered in a few days. I wonder if the other figures in the wave will be moved up. My Stunticons await Breakdown.
-Hot Shot is allegedly in stock right now
-Needlenose, Leo Prime, and the 3 Cores are all shipping later in the month
-Scraphook and Tarn still say March 1st thus far
-Can't find the listing for Breakdown
I'm fully expecting 2024 is gonna be SS86 Commander Optimus (since that's where all the WFC-G1 redos are going these days and it keeps them from having to sell a Legacy Commander Optimus for 2 years in a row) who possibly shares parts/engineering with Magnus if Magnus has the cab bot, and Legacy Commander Tidal Wave as the combiner partner and companion piece for Leader Armada Megatron (who I imagine would get repacked around that time) and the antithesis of Armada Prime, as despite my personal want of Titan Tidal Wave, I think the current design team would want to work in that combination for the play value and the cross-sell with Megs.Emerje wrote:ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Based on what? He's one of the toys we know Hasbro has designed (just like we knew Takara had an mp Trailbreaker in the works but that took like over 5 years to materialize).
Likely in the SS86 line at some point.
