No this is not a mock up, or an early April Fool's Day joke.
HASBRO, in an attempt to reward the major fan websites for all of their devotion and hard work in support of the Transformers brand this year, has sent out a little thank you.
As a reward to our community here at Seibertron.com, we have worked hard to get the preview images up here first, and to discuss and compare with TakaraTomy's EZ Devastator set, released earlier in the year.
This thread is image heavy!!! And I apologize that these are not 'Seibertron' gallery level photos, in haste to get you the latest information and news, I had to use what was available to me in the time I had. I think you can see from the pictures how the packaging came out, and a few of the details in comparison to the EZ release of the toy.
HASBRO's LEGENDS CLASS DEVASTATOR-
First of all, I think this will be very satisfying to younger and newer fans. The fact that there will be a more affordable Devastator available, and that each part can transform to all three modes (robot/vehicle/and combiner mode) will be a huge draw. I can see this quickly becoming a top selling item for HASBRO, especially if the monster priced set of the initial release of the Devastator set was a 'top toy' for 2009.
And for collectors, if you waited, and hoped that HASBRO would make the EZ collection Devastator set, not change it at all, and make it cheaper than importing the Takara version, your wait is over. While there has been no retail price announced on this yet, due to its size, it should be a more affordable option for any collector.
I have only reviewed the set MISP (mint in sealed package), but it seems to be EXACTLY the same as the Takara EZ Devastator set. The paint apps when scrutinized from the outside of the box and compared to my EZ Devastator seem to be exactly the same.
As for plastic quality/joint quality/etc., when it is opened I can give you an updated comparison on that.
The package is a oval plastic. Similar to what one received when they bought a Target Exclusive Allspark version a few years back, it is not cardboard, but will display very nicely, especially with a set of the regular-sized Constructicons (as you can see in the photos).
Would I buy this if I already own the EZ version? That is a tough call. MISB collectors will like it, it's a smaller package, and has a nice window display. Since the inside seems to be exactly the same as the Takara version, I probably would only buy this if I wanted a MISB version. If not, I would probably not.
If I did not own the EZ version however, I believe I would buy one of these off the shelf without a second thought.
There you have it. A quick review a soon-to-be-release from the Transformers brand. HASBRO's Legends Devastator wraps the Constructicons into a nice, neat package, and presents them in a clean, clear way that collectors, fans, and children should enjoy.
The Devastator gift set includes transformable legends class versions of Constructicons Scrapper, Long Haul, Mixmaster, Rampage, Hightower, Scavenger, and Overload.
BIO-"Never before has a robot so powerful been seen anywhere in the galaxy. Indeed, few forces on Earth can match the strength and fury of CONSTRUCTICON DEVASTATOR. He is the equal of Earth's most powerful storms. A ferocious destroyer of all in his path. He is so huge that the very thought of engaging in direct combat against him makes even the stoutest AUTOBOT quake in fear. No one knows how to defeat him, bit if the AUTOBOTS hope for victory, they will need to find a way."
