We have our first full listing for the upcoming Transformers Legacy deluxe Crankcase from Amazon UK. It also comes with a pretty comprehensive description. As with Skids, this toy will be an updated Generations-style design based on the G1 character (the description says animated series, but since he wasn't in there, I'm assuming that's just catch all for "G1"). There's a cool little mention about a gimmick with the weapon storage in vehicle mode and that he becomes an off-road vehicle, along with the amount of steps for transformation. Following the description is a link to the gallery of the G1 toy if any of your are unfamiliar with the character's look.
TRANSFORMERS G1-INSPIRED DESIGN: This Transformers: Legacy 5.5-inch Crankcase robot toy is inspired by the animated series, The Transformers, updated with a Generations-style design
UNIVERSES COLLIDE: Universes collide with Transformers: Legacy! This epic line of Transformers toys brings together fan-favorite characters from across the Transformers multiverse
2 EPIC MODES: Crankcase action figure converts from robot to off-road vehicle mode in 14 steps. Remove the front grill of vehicle mode to reveal a large blaster accessory
HARNESS THE POWER OF ENERGON: Gear up with the most powerful substance on Cybertron, Energon! This Transformers Crankcase figure comes with an Energon blaster accessory that attaches in both modes
SCAN THE CODE: Scan the code on each package to reveal character tech specs from across the multiverse! Collect other Legacy figures to reveal their character tech specs (each sold separately, subject to availability)

The last time we got a Crankcase update it was a really good attempt in the Allspark Power Bay movie sub-line of all places.

That toy was originally meant to be in the 2008-2009 Universe line, but Walmart demanded more Movie toys, so Hasbro gave Crankcase, Fracture, Breakaway, Jolt, Big Daddy, Divebomb, and Grindcore all Movie packaging ad toy bios to satisfy Walmart's demands.Overcracker wrote:Interesting... retool of Skids? To be fair, the Cybertron redecoes in that line were originally intended to be Universe-branded but Mall-Wart wanted them in the movie packaging instead.Overcracker wrote:Interesting... retool of Skids? Or something else entirely?

But yes, that was a decent effort. Red Alert has a similar backpack, and his Cyber Key cannons mean that Crankcase's original gimmick is preserved, so it worked out very well!
I will be interested to see this Crankcase, although I'm surprised he got in ahead of Needlenose or Sureshot.

Considering Hasbro already seems to be taking Override-from-Hot-Rod from 3rd-party stuff, I'm hoping this guy leads to a new Ironfist in addition to looking good in his own right.

Ah, right, forgot about the leaks saying that. Personally I'd much rather prefer a new mold for Ironfist if HasTak loves us that much...an Ironfist from Crankcase wouldn't be bad as long as they made it look more like a Humvee (as much as genericism allows, of course )

Oh I would prefer a new mold as well, I'm just attempting to keep my hopes realistic and would gladly take Ironfist being a retool if the alternative is no Ironfist. They already turned Spinister into Rotorstorm and people were speculating the currently unspecified Bulkhead reuse in the Wreckers exclusives could be Pyro, I feel like this would be in line with those.SpaceEagle wrote:Ah, right, forgot about the leaks saying that. Your irrational hatred of the figure no one has seen yet has been well-documented by this point, yes.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Idiotically so, considering the different transformation of that 3P Hot Rod.
Everyone who I've heard got the Jurassic Park set said that JP93 sucked, so I would hope that mold never be reused (plus it would be too big for Ironfist). As for Hound, the bot mode would match better, but the alt mode would be off. I feel like a fake/implied hood chest would be easier to implement than an alt mode reshell, since I'm assuming Ironfist would happen as a Selects or similar exclusive (especially given, again, Rotorstorm). Plus, we don't yet know if Crankcase has the backpack gun gimmick yet, but if he does, that would serve as a closer approximation to what Ironfist has than anything the Hound mold comes with.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Considering Crankcase doesn't have a hood chest, Hound or JP93 would be better bases for Ironfist.

Unless there's an extreme degree of alternate tooling baked into the mold, there is no way that SS86 Hot Rod can become anything more than a sloppy second head swap (to borrow your term) Override. The transformation design is too different. The build of the arms and legs is too different.
The 3P thing worked because in modelling Hot Rod's IDW design the look and transformation scheme wound up being close to Override's (curvy, feet at the front, etc). That is not the case with SS86 Hot Rod. SS86 Hot Rod's design bends over backwards and cheats with a faux-parts chest (that there is zero room to swap with a convincing imitation of Override's cockpit chest) to get a hyper screen-accurate Hot Rod in both robot and vehicle modes, and is thus inherently specialized to that. He could be retooled into an okay Hot Shot (because Cybertron Hot Shot was himself a heavy homage to Hot Rod, to the point of having a stylized representation of Hot Rod's hood chest in robot mode), but Override? I don't see how that's happening in any sort of satisfactory way. An angularized Override as a heavy retool of SIEGE Springer seems more feasible than pulling off a good one from SS86 Hot Rod (although only so much of an improvement).
And it bugs me that they're branding the line "Velocitron" but apparently phoning in Override.
Considering that mold would need to be reshelled at asbolute minimum to be repurposed at all anyway, hopefully it would come with better arms if it did. And why would it be too big?Nemesis Primal wrote:Everyone who I've heard got the Jurassic Park set said that JP93 sucked, so I would hope that mold never be reused (plus it would be too big for Ironfist).ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Considering Crankcase doesn't have a hood chest, Hound or JP93 would be better bases for Ironfist.
I dunno, SIEGE Hound's silhouette seems closer to a Humvee than Crankcase's Land Cruiser-esque silhouette (assuming his new toy retains that).Nemesis Primal wrote:As for Hound, the bot mode would match better, but the alt mode would be off. How so? What Ironfist had was a big turret that became a stand-supported gun, so neither is super-close there IMO.Nemesis Primal wrote:Plus, we don't yet know if Crankcase has the backpack gun gimmick yet, but if he does, that would serve as a closer approximation to what Ironfist has than anything the Hound mold comes with.

Yep, I know I really don't like it. And it's impossible for Hasbro to reuse it for anything else since the mold was made as a movie license making it completely off limits to use as anything other than a JP figure. Legally a regular figure can be made into a licensed figure, but you can't go the other way around. They could recreate the transformation for another figure, but it would have to be completely new parts (and maybe not be half assed with a bunch of shortcuts and clear plastic hinges).

Would love it if they did more retooling so he resembles the original figure more heheh.

hmm, with this in mind, now I'm definitely believing they'll just give us a repaint botch job with SS86 Hottie Roddie into Override...
They'll probably change the faux chest at most so it resembles her windshield with the new head (and new paint apps, of course), then call it a day.
At least it's better than nothing...right?

About HIS bizarre gender-swapping (Thank you, American dub for forcing females quotas) there could be TWO versions of Override. A male one as big and bulky racecar and his own original mold. And a female one who could be a heavily modded SS86 Blurr.

Because they made fembots a thing. Especially for those who looks feminine.
So we care about their genders because they ARE gendered.
The Transformers are no Daleks nor Cybermen.

If you mean in the G1 show, sure, it was awkward as heck. As if the producers were... shy... to introduce fembots. It's even more apparent when the planned G1 Arcee toy never went pass the prototype stage.
Then in Cybertron, there was that ONE fembot, Thunderblast. But the Americans felt there were not enough females so they dubbed in some more by gender-swapping characters that were male in the Japanese show. That was quite forced.
One thing that I should have found cringe is Skywarp's gender-swap in Cyberverse. But it worked perfectly because those seekers were almost at a 50/50 female and male ratio and it felt natural. Also, that big burly and idiotic fembot Clobber was quite refreshing.
Oh, might as well shill for this old video that I made:

As long as the toys are good, who cares?
And so, I hope the Crankcase toy and Override toy will be enjoyable. Especially Crankcase's, the little guy needed something after all these years! I still got that one Windsweeper toy redecoed from Skydive, maybe this'll finally incline me to get that Ruckus toy made from Offroad (who was supposed to be Ruckus from the get-go, how ironic!)

See, you're pre-judging the figure based on a gripe you have with the Hot Rod mold and the fact that you at least seem to want as close to 100% accuracy to the original Override design as possible, or at least that's how it reads to me. I am waiting to see the actual figure before making these kinds of judgements, since I don't care about 100% accuracy, I just care about it looking good to me and looking enough like Override to work for me. Considering the Velocitron line is supposed to be the replacement for the Netflix line, and the Netflix line had the retooling budget to replace 3/4ths of Soundwave's parts, I have belief that they CAN make a decent Override in this scenario, we just have to wait and see. They're using Warpath to make Cosmos, radical retools seem to clearly be on the table here.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Unless there's an extreme degree of alternate tooling baked into the mold, there is no way that SS86 Hot Rod can become anything more than a sloppy second head swap (to borrow your term) Override. I also don't have SS86 Hot Rod (nothing against the figure, I just don't care enough about Hot Rod to replace the TR one), but I would think having a fake chest would actually make it easier to swap that part for a more accurate chest piece, would it not?
From what I've seen, that mold is around Hoist/Ironhide/Rotorstorm height, so the large end of Deluxe, whereas Ironfist's only media appearances in the comics have put him at average Deluxe height or below and definitively shorter than Rotorstorm.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Considering that mold would need to be reshelled at asbolute minimum to be repurposed at all anyway, hopefully it would come with better arms if it did. And why would it be too big?
If we're going for as-accurate-an-Ironfist-as-possible (which is I think what you're arguing for, but again, I could be misconstruing that), then they would still have to retool the whole backpack if not half the figure to give it an enclosed cab and the boxier back half. I don't see Hasbro doing that and a new head for a comic-only character like Ironfist unless that remold was planned from the start, and I'm assuming the remold that would be planned for Hound would be a more-G1 Earth mode version, which isn't the same Jeep and wouldn't solve most of that. Crankcase is already a self-enclosed boxy Jeep-thing, at least, so the only retooling needed would be the new head and maybe a fake hood-chest panel (if they didn't just paint it on like Rotorstorm).ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:I dunno, SIEGE Hound's silhouette seems closer to a Humvee than Crankcase's Land Cruiser-esque silhouette (assuming his new toy retains that).
It was, but 90% of the time it was shown in the comics he just carried it around as a backpack. I'm pretty sure he only used it in Wreckers once and it was right at the beginning, and I think he used it more in the FunPub stuff but that's had way less exposure. With that in mind, then if they do Ironfist as a minimal-remolding new head repaint like Rotorstorm, I assume they would go for him having a big gun backpack but not actually prioritize it being functional as a removable turret. Depending on how they implement Crankcase, they may at the very least match in terms of having large gun backpacks and/or a way to plug the large rifle into the backpack to make a large gun backpack. Hound, meanwhile, has no real way of making his guns stick up over his head if you plug them into his back unless you use both of them pegged together (I checked on Selects Hot Shot a ways back), let alone a bulky backpack.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:How so? I don't think they will ever make the... finer details, but I do hope an updated Thunderblast will be "hot" and FEMININE like ER Arcee. Backpack and shellforming be damned.

After reading the IDW 2.0 Transformers comics, a character I way, way really want a figure of is Geomotus. Just think he is super cool looking. Size and shape wise, he may be able to be remoulded from a Crankcase or Ironfist, if they dont share a mould. Far as I know Geomotus is a new character created for IDW 2.0. I havent checked the wiki or anything yet. Plus I never heard of him before and I have either watched/read nearly everything Transformers.
That Tom Hardy/Mad Max meme is the gift that keeps on giving, lol

I was having that issue at first, but realized it was a lot easier if I did the front of the windshield right after lifting up the front end to get the head out of the way. Everything just pops into place, but that back corner just wont stay down.

The all-new Laser Optimus Prime gives a modern update to G2 Laser Rod Optimus Prime. While the toy takes a few ques from Earthrise Optimus Prime, it is mostly a brand new figure. While it's tough to top the original G2 Laser Rod Optimus Prime, Legacy Laser Optimus Prime tries it's best. This version has the expected sword accessory, a new axe accessory that fits in with the theme of Legacy, and has a cannon that attaches to the base mode which can also be used as a hand-held accessory.
The camera didn't stop with Laser Optimus Prime either. This was a fantastic opportunity to take a comprehensive look at Generations Selects WFC-GS14 Megatron, which homages G2 Megatron in all of his green with purple 1990s-styled camouflaged glory. This version of Megatron is a recolor of the Transformers Earthrise Voyager Class Megatron.
Laser Optimus Prime just started showing up at retail and is available online. Selects G2 Megatron was an online exclusive. Both can be found from various online retailers. Selects G2 Megatron is currently available at the Seibertron Store.
Check out both galleries using the image links below and share your thoughts about both figures on the Energon Pub forums. Enjoy!

I have the original g2 prime and it seemed a much big figure so to see this optimus nearly as tall is nice. The lack of red on the knees and the tankors sticker is still kind of annoying but as per the norm of hasbro encouraging third party add ons. I'm also not keen on the shape of legacies feet but that's because I'm picky more than anything else. I really like the TR version and don't really need a third (technically Forth as I have the old deluxe to get rid of somewhere) g2 prime but I'd be tempted now.
G2 megs looks decent in robot mode but like prime I have the original and purple TR and artic selects. Selects Tank mode is still a let down for me in the green coloring as details are out of place compared to the original but I think if you get legacy prime he is kind of a must to go with him.
If hasbro goes all weird and releases g2 prime in heroic colors for selects rather than as magnus I think I'll be picking one up

I need to get myself a G2 Megatron, somehow I've gone all this time without one despite having the purple Combat Hero version.
I have all three Generations G2 Megatrons, all using different molds (green from the Earthrise mold, purple from the Titans Return/Legends mold and gray from the Siege mold) which is pretty neat.

A Scourge version would definitely look great along with a Laser Ultra Magnus version. If in fact HasTak would make the other two they would look great alongside the original releases which i own. I know the Laser UM was a e-Hobby exclusive release but still it would look great in those colors too.
I would think Toyhax would come up with or plans to release a sticker set for G2 Optimus Prime; giving homage to the original G2 version, especially for the trailer.

This is what we should've had in the first place: correct shoulders and no nonsensical battle damage.
This is just a mini-review that goes over differences between the Legacy and Kingdom versions of Galvatron. The main obvious difference is that all the "battle damage" has been removed. Granted, the way it was done on the Kingdom version didn't make a whole lot of sense, and sometimes, less is more. The "battle damage" marks have been removed the cannon, forearms, chest, and lower legs. The bare plastic and paint colors are otherwise the same.
I have noticed that various joints are indeed tighter, including the hips and skirt flaps. This was a pleasant change to find.
...and that's it. The accessories are the same, so didn't include pics of those.
Is this worth $50 to double dip again? Probably not, unless your Kingdom version had various QC issues and/or the incorrectly assembled shoulders...and you really, really like Galvatron.
Not sure if this is the start of a trend for Hasbro to re-release figures again with slight changes. It's one thing if it's on a cheap figure, but this is a $50 Leader Class figure. That's a bit steep.
