Transformers Mechtech Ultimate Optimus Prime Action Figure
With the upcoming Transformers: Dark of the Moon movie, one of the most iconic characters in the Transformers lore will capture the spotlight as his heroic story becomes the focus of the first-ever 3D Transformers movie. Now, an action figure befitting such an icon will be available with the new Transformers Mechtech Ultimate Optimus Prime action figure. The figure includes the Autobot leader's classic trailer that doubles as a weapons arsenal and is an integral part of the figure's converting play pattern. The Mechtech Ultimate Optimus Prime figure features three modes of conversion – vehicle, robot, and robot with "mech suit." The trailer, which serves as a weapons depot and command center, also converts into a "mech suit" that Optimus Prime shows off when it's time to rumble. Featuring lights, launching projectiles, electronic battle sounds and Optimus Prime phrases, this is the must-have item for kids and fans alike.

I don't mind the butterfly wings, but the MASSIVE FISTS OF JUSTICE!(tm) and the Super-Pants Prime styled legs kind of kill it for me.

I really wish they'd re-used the Battle Blades Optimus Prime mold and modded it as needed. The arms on this new one are lame, I jsut hope the movie model is not the same. The super mode is a little over the top, even compared to previous Super Primes like Powermaster and Cybertron, pretty nuts on their own. I want to see the command center mode.

Optimus alone isn't bad, however I think they could have spent more time with it, especially the hands. Don't understand why it couldn't have almost been a copy of BB Optimus and added the trailer?

TFM = We are n00bs at making Bayformers and therefore teh suck.
ROTF = Collectors' line, in other words, too complicated for kids.
DOTM = We overcompensate for ROTF by making Armada 2.0.
They really should've stuck with one of the existing voyager molds, because this thing is pathetic. The alt mode and regular robot legs look decent, but that's about it. Arms are fail. Shoulder kibble is fail. Combined is just... not good. Like Armada Prime! I dunno. The only way I could ever see myself picking this up is if it's mistransformed in this pic and gets a Magnus repaint & remold.

I saw the price listed on TFW...

Hasbro needs to focus on quality rather than silly gimmicks. (They improve upon Star Wars every time, so what gives?)
This DOTM line is taking a step backwards. But as long as they sell (which they most likely will) to the young'uns of the target customer, it'll be fine(!)
Really hope this isn't the one we've heard will have motion-sensors and such! (If it is, oh dear...)

io9 said it's going for $79.99

But that doesn't matter, because I buy ALL Optimus Prime molds.
If they ever made an Optimus Prime that transformed into a turd, I would have to buy it, as well.
Actually it might be interesting to display it together with the shoe.

Wow, where to start?
1. "Ultimate" means freaking Voyager class with a trailer? Call me when they make one for Leader class.
2. Fairy Princess Prime mode looks...off. It certainly doesn't look right.
3. The trailer deco leaves a lot to be desired - lots of plastic with a smudge of paint.
4. Fairy Princess Prime mode gives him one hell of a backpack.
5. Fairy Princess Prime mode makes him look like one hell of a shellformer.
6. I was hoping that maybe we'd get a battle station trailer. I'd sooner have the trailer be a brick than to be bot mode accessory.
7. Primes fists now come out of his grill? Boy does that look stupid.
Long story short: Thanks Hasbro! You just helped me decide on whether or not to get this figure. (Hint: the answer rhymes with "snot".)

Anyway, if it's $80, it'll be somewhere between £60-£100 (depending on just how optimistic Hasblo UK are) which is frankly too much for me for anything other than an MP size and quality TF. I do however oddly want it.

1. the chest is better than the other one
2. the head is as good as its going to get
3. the arms are a cheap cop out they could have atleast found a way to hide the wheel arch somewhere and the same goes for the bumper so the arms dont look so stupid
4. i have no problem with what the trailer does to the arms and legs
5. it should have added to the chest and it should have had a base rather than those silly wings.they couldhave atleast allowed the wings to reduce in size by folding or detatching th form four different weapons
also the feet look riddiculus

I expect the combined mode will be more in Unicron's size class.

He looks really angular and even blocky. A lot of parts seem like they should fold in on themselves some more. He's almost certainly mistransformed, but to what extent?
The jetpack/armor doesn't resemble what we've seen. Perhaps Prime gets two?

Definitely not an $80 toy(to me). It sounds like you may need this to make Prime combine with other bots though, so he may become a necessity.
Posted by SFTFAN on February 7th, 2011 @ 5:19pm CST
it looks NOTHING like the Prime from the recent superbowl movie trailer that flies in and kills three cons in one swoop....no huge jets on his back, instead just a flat pannel...what? is he supposed to flap those ferry wings to fly? no BFG at all...instead some pants and gloves to put on him?? just awful looking!
the only thing that looks remotely OK is the ALT mode...and even that is pretty poor and the scale of the trailer and the cab looks way off....the cab is tiny, the trailer is massive. suck.
this figure is so horrible looking that it has forced me to make my 2nd post in four years to express my displeasure!
BRING ON THE LASERBEAK FIGURE! (looking to be my only DOTM purchase...unless they botch it too)

What? NO! Hasbro PR NEVER makes mistakes in their pictures! They are teh genyuses! They don't even need directions...
...by the way, their PR department consists of two trained chimpanzees and a lemur.

Well no wonder he rips it off. Looks like one of those cyber stompin things.

powerup mode-can someone say rid magnus
trailer- its sad when FP does it better.

I just hope the TF: Prime figures look better than this. Things were looking so good until this abomination today.

1. I am curious of the actual size of the figure it self. Someone brought up the the possibility that it might be a slightly bigger than deluxe figure. Definitely would like to know and see if Hasbro is really sizing down its line.
2. The robot mode looks good except the arm kibble kills it for me. But at least the transformation looks like an ode to the G1 figure
3. I am wondering, if in combined mode, is it the same as the jet powered powered prime featured in the teaser and if the "butterfly" wings are removable.
