From
the following thread Seibertron posted this:
Please play until your heart's content today.
I modified HMW so I would be the only one who could access it to help me isolate areas that were of concern to me. The main index page of HMW that listed your recent Arena and Mission battles and news seemed to take a very, very long time for the page to load, especially since NO ONE other than me was able to access it. It was taking around 20 - 30 seconds for the page to load ... but only the first time that I visited that page. That's because the database is setup to cache queries ... so the more frequently a query is accessed, the faster it should process (in theory), until the server runs out of memory for caching queries in memory (at least I think that's how the memory cache works in theory).
After the 20 - 30 second load average occurred for 4 days straight, I decided it was time to remove those queries from the index page of HMW until Glyph or I have time to rewrite those queries to get your recent Arena and mission battles. Let's see how the game loads and how the server behaves with that functionality being turned off.
I have some other ideas for HMW as well, but I want to see how big of an overall difference this makes.
....................
Just a warning ... I'll be monitoring the server. If it acts up, I have to turn the game back off. Hopefully this won't be the case today. If any of you see Glyph on IM, please let him know that I did this so he can address a couple of the issues that I notified him about. Thanks.

Seibertron is working on some things:
I installed something on the server that will allow me to (hopefully) catch some slow queries on the site. I turned the game on temporarily so that I can see what crashes the server over the next few hours with the game online.

Some sections are down again but Glyph has reported the following:
I've put the arena back online for the moment to see how the load bears up. The performance record stuff has been temporarily disabled - this should let me know whether there's a major problem with the queries that update it.
Of course, this may be temporary so be advised that things do change, and they may more often than we can update this page.

Glyph and meetoblivion have been busy working on the game and have been successful in getting the
registry back up for your team.
But that's not all that's been reactivated! Everything is back
except for Missions and the Arena. CR is down as well, but that's not a concern since Glyph restored everyone's health to full, and with no fighting you won't need it.
Battle Beasts have returned as well, so after you check out your team and make sure that everything's okay you can head in there to stay busy.
But while this is good and all we do ask for some help from you. Please report any lags in the site and what time they occured in the
Problems Reporting Thread. Don't forget to let us know what timezone you're in because that makes a huge difference when dealing with times of day.
Naturally, we will try to keep you informed of
any developments, either here or in the
HMW Status Thread.

I posted an update regarding the current status of the game in the
Heavy Metal War Forum:
Ryan is testing things but the game will come back down if the server locks up again.
Use it, but don't be disappointed if it goes down. The good news is that if it does/doesn't go down we may have figured out something very important to the database connections.
Check here or in
this thread for further updates. We will keep you posted as soon as we find out anything.

Please stay in the arena as much as possible.
I realize that not everyone is going to see this and stay out of the missions but if we could please get as little traffic as possible going through the missions until Glyph says it's okay that would be helpful.
For the moment please stick in the
arena.
We will keep you informed as repairs are completed.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Well, we needed to test the new automatic tournament code ahead of Dark Emissary, and the folks at Pax Cybertronia have kindly created
a mini tournament for us!
The tournament starts at

warm up your bots!
While the tournament is running, you can check out the latest results through the
tournaments page - and while you're waiting, why not drop by the
Heavy Metal War forum to discuss this latest turn in the War with other players?

Hey Autobots, Blaster here with the latest news and views and not a hint of snooze! Our sensors just picked up those Decepticon critters Ravage and Ratbat prowlin' around near Wheeljack's lab. They were gone by the time we got there with the friendly ol' energon nets, but this is a warning to keep on your toes. I don't know what they wanted or whether they got it, but it probably spells bad news for us if they did. Blaster out.
